Hiring a lorry at Najma

By Joan

Does anyone know how much does it really cost in hiring a lorry at Najma? I went there last night with my husband and they were charging from QR100-200 without helpers. Very surprising because according to the furniture shops that we inquired from, they only pay them QR50. I'm getting worried because we already arranged 4 helpers on Friday to help us transfer our furnitures from the old to the new accommodation.

Actually my Nepalese neighbour went with me, and the it was a Nepalese guy who was running the show. However, they did a very good job and nothing was damaged during the transport and all my A/C's were working on the same evening and my cooker too.

I took 2 lorries and 4 helpers for a full day and paid

QR 1.300,--. However they put up all my cupboard and installed all my A/C's and made sure they were running as well as fixing up the gas cooker too. On the other hand the inflation reate rises 200% when they see a foreigner. LOL. But they are good and careful.

Maybe it was because we (my wife and I) are western looking....or maybe because they could sense I was in a rush...but yes we paid 150 for the truck and another 150 for 3 porters (50 each) to help us with the move.

Perhaps next time we'll know better....again good luck with your move.

Stay safe all.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?

Ragnarock Raider...QR150 if with helpers, i think that is reasonable but if you paid for the transportation only, that is too much.

Ram, I'm thinking of going there again tonight with my mum, maybe we can get a better deal. I don't know if I'm right about this but is it because he is a Westerner which is the reason why they were charging that much?

I'm living in Najma .. and the last time they charged me for 70 Q.R.

Listen Joan, They don't have fixed price .. they r giving hire price cuz they know that somepeople will take it down ..

So tell ur husband when they say 150 Q.R. ur husband say no i will pay only 70 Q.R. and then start to negotiate with him .. again IT IS NOT A FIXED PRICE .. he might charge u for 300 Q.R. if he felt that u might pay ..

But we were also on a tight schedule and didn't have time to research it....so maybe we did get gyped.

Good luck in the move.
