RIM has addressed the security concerns of several other countries including the UK and the US,therefore there is no justification to not comply with the same in GCC, India..etc.

As for the UAE, am sure Google may come up with a tailored GMail.

it is the internet calling that are riling many of the govts.

Its their country they can do as they please.

They always try to protect Etisalat so no surprises there after Google came up with call phone feature. I don't think Gmail will be banned though, not possible.

Restricting Blackberry on security concerns and banning Google on the fear of loss of revenue to Telecom Giants are two different things.

My hubby might cry if they ban blackberry services in Qatar..lol. Seriously I hope they don't! Again its hard to imagine such drastic steps being taken but if its truly for security reasons then we have to comply.

they concerned only for using VOIP. other than no worry. i think google will not apply for google voices to the region that have an issue, like qatar, UAE

SP's are actually the problem here... they feel threatened by the amount of money they are losing due to BBM, gmail voice and Skype...

I doubt its has anything to do with security....

The UAE clearly does not want VoIP telephony to impact its current incumbents. Google will have to find a way round it and I'm sure they will..
