Happy Birthday Gypsy
Who would believe that our own scion of Qatar Living has reached the flowering of her maidenhead and is 27 years old today. 27 years has marked the zenith of many a star before Gypsy. One has only to think of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain to name a few but Gypsy's star is still on the rise.
Who would believe that 27 years ago in the economically depressed small town of Port Hawkesbury (not even a McDonalds to boast about) in the Presbyterian wasteland of Nova Scotia, a star of the Gulf, a desert orchid would make her appearance.
27 years ago her proud parents bore her aloft of the grateful townsfolk as they paraded past the boarded up windows of the closed stores on Main street. Past the faded clapboard houses with their broken picket fences. Past the burned out stolen and abandoned cars and passed out drunks until they arrived at their own little patch, the crumbling trailer park which was to become Gypsy's home.
Gypsy was a star student achieving a solid 'C' average (a feat never achieved before in Port Hawkesbury) and the world was her oyster. Her clear blue eyes surveyed the surroundings and she asked herself where she should go. To the west lay more than three thousand miles of Canada but in between lay the dreaded and feared province of Quebec. To the north and east lay the cold and snowy wastes of Labrador, Greenland and Scotland and other desolate ghastly places. To the south and west lay the glittering prize of the United States of America. But did Gypsy choose the USA? She did not. She knew that her destiny lay elsewhere.
Fortunately for us the beautiful Gypsy decide to come to Qatar (by way of Korea and Europe). Despite the risks to her flawless fair Irish skin and the havoc that sun can reap on dyed blonde hair, Qatar was to become her home.
Please join me in wishing her a very happy birthday and may we look to at least 27 more years of strident vitriolism, humor and pathos. Yea Gypsy, go girl!
