HAMAD HOSPITAL
By countrylady13 •
well after being rushed to hamad hospital on wednesday with a dislocated hip(just come home today)all i can say is WHAT A FANTASIC HOSPITAL IT IS,from the ambulance drivers, doctors.x ray people.to the house keepers, i am from uk,and this was the best treatment,WHY do people complain about it,THANK YOU TO ALL AT HAMED HOSPIAL,
Thanks to you all
It is a nice arguement here about HMC.
As I said before (if anyone remember..) am a staff in HMC, I am cardiologist and I take shifts in emergency department.
My experience is always related to the cardiac room, which i think is a life-0saving place. When there is an emergency situation, all people rush and act quickly.
Again I think it is not a nationality related treatment, although may be some people give more attention to nationals for fear of complaints!! But in most cases you can see nationals staying and waiting in row just as expats. In OPD the same happens in most cases, although there may be priority for nationals to take early appointments but on the day of app., the one who comes first and take a number will be seen first. this is for sure.\\
Even i feel the same way because both my parents are sick and the care that they receive from the hamad hospital is just great. The follow up treatments are also regularly followed. Thanks to the Hamad Hospital Authorities.

yes she is doing fine bubbly],
bakamuna, i pray that yer baby is well...
jasmine, you can't please everyone eh . . . HMC, technology-wise has a lot to offer
I agree with you countrylady cos we had the same experience couple of weeks back when our new born baby choked from some milk she had, she was not breathing when we entered Medical center in al sad and when we entered the nurse in the front desk grabbed the baby an ran to the emergency room where couple of doctors rushed in and within few seconds there was like 5-6 doctors plus nurses in the room,
all this time we were told not to worry and everything is ok even though it was not, after 10-15 minutes a doctor took all information and told us not to worry but it was life threatening incident, the baby was kept for over night observation and the doctors kept checking on her every hour and it was one the best service we have seen in my entire life... they were the best when we were panicking....
Well put, HMC is a massive organisation and is, as far as I can see, run on international protocols that are standard anywhere. I have had always had first rate care from HMC, coming from the UK nursing system, I would love to work there, it's efficient, clean and professional in my experience, things us NHS nurses could only have dreamed of. Apart from the queuing system in OPD and Pharmacy, HMC is the best I have known. Keep up the good work. JJ
thank you xpressodoc...
as i have been saying and i will repeat it again...
there is a triaging system, it is where we SORT out patients according to the priorities of their illness/medical needs and last i looked, there was none stating that nationalities are to be considered.
and JIMI, what makes u say that if you are an arab or an asian, they wont care??? halleerrrr... majority of Qatar's pop are arabs and from the asian subs...
and JONALD, who are u referring to as "PINOY KA PALA"?
and BRIN is right, don't generalize...
afterall, HAMAD is where almost all of the other hospitals would refer a patient to when patients need "advanced medical care"
so it goes, that if you prefer a certain Hosp over HMC, no force applied...it is what we call the patient's rights...
At the end of all of this... its all about the actual person that will be providing the service.. some are lucky to get some great people working on them, others are not.
I've chosen to go to Al Ahli for my own reasons but have been to Hamad twice for special ultrasounds... 1 experience was great with tremendous help from everyone - the next wasn't that great (and again, completely different people helping me).
Regardless of the hospital, we have to hold thumbs that we'll all get the same experiences that you guys have gotten.

anak ka ng ina mo! pinoy ka pala!
Dagway ai!
its good hospital
well, come to my hosp which is under the corporation and i'll give you earpieces to last a year's supply...though it's not mine to give away...
i'll just write on the pack...only for JONALD....
is that okay with you??? LOL. just kiddin. hope yer ear ok now
you'll see when you need them to look at youre ear
Dagway ai!
shahzad, you are right... but pls don't insinuate and specify - the laborers are being left in pain...
as i've said - triaging and priorities... some things should be taken into consideration as well,
if the ED is busy, if they are attending to a more serious case, if a QATARI comes in first - well, in that instance, we can never really do anything, can we??? unless (again) what the other has is a life threatening condition...
we too pity them waiting for hours... it's not for us to act upon...
youre right! i was bashing that doctor, he's no good.
how much you wanna bet, let's go together in that clinic they told me to go to which is gov't. They won't have any earpiece.
again youre right, i been in another hospital the same problem about my ear. and they also dont have any earpiece when they look through my ear.
Dagway ai!
awww... HMC is Qatar's govt hosp. the country being rich, and who gives us employment! would of course provide EARPIECES...
and the doctor who saw you in the ED maybe meant they dont have the Ear specialist in the ED, and yer case being a "cold case" needs to be really seen in the OPD... unless of course as i ahve been saying....unless a madasgar cockroach is in yer ear...
bash the doctor...LOL
every hospital has their UPS and downs...and if we will start again with the comparison of hospitals here in qatar...
*** bubbly SIGHS***
thanks 4 ur concern BUBBLY
i did not have any problem so far and i know how to fight for RIGHt but i alwayz feel sad about those labours who were sittin n standing crying out for their pain and NUrse told thm to wait until u got ur number.
GOD bless paitence to those poor guys.
I think that doctor was too lazy to grabed his otoscope and take a look at my ear. so he sent me to another clinic.
by the way people, the otoscope that they were using don't have a "disposable ear specula". this is a plastic piece shaped like a cone that is supposed to be attached at the tip of the otoscope and be disposed after one use. I used to work in medical supplies in US army, I know about this equipment.
Dagway ai!
rich, what is yer basis for saying so?
in fairness to HMC...
A racist hospital.

shahzad, i can't speak for others... that may be their personality. some poker faced, some look as if they are always in pain, some have a permanent frown on their face, some smile the "doggie smile", and some really smile and welcome you - different strokes with different folks.
i hope the next time you go there(i hope u won't though), an angelic smile will be sent yer way...
Well as long as the have the equipment and staff to cope with life and death in Main Hamad, where the Emergency is, that's good enough for me. Better than being told to walk to a defibrilator when you need it, that really would be the wrong way round.
jasminejasmine, please re read my post. as i said the nurse sent me to emergency to see a doctor. not that i sent myself or insist to, but the nurse that gave me initial checkups.
my point is, how could that doctor said they do NOT HAVE an ear specialist in the MAIN HAMAD hospital while the walk in clinic does.
Dagway ai!
I said wht i experieced almost every tim3 i visited.
Even the way you treat and communicate with different nationalities.
Just try to notice that each single staff behaviour with an Asian and with other NATIONALS.
shahzad, believe me too when i say that when a cute asian patient comes in with a more severe case and a gorgeous caucasian comes in with a "cold case"...
chances are, the gorgeous guy gets the attention (LOL)...BUT the cute asian would definitely get the TREATMENT FIRST...
we have what we call the TRIAGING and setting of PRIORITIES in hospitals...
so if yer complaint is earache...except of course if a madagascar cocroach is in there...then you can wait for 6 hours if you want...
as i've said...priorities of ILLNESS, not on yer geographical location...
HMC is no doubt one of the best in the country but here i would like to point out onething
HERE in HOSPITALS people are being treated by their nationalities and once again the low rated are Asians
Belive me or not IT IS TRUE
I strongly agree....HAMAD MEDICAL CORP IS THE BEST!!!!
Especially the filipino staff nurse of Hamad.... very warm...
Jonald, you went to an Emergency Department with an earache??? In the UK they would have laughed you out of the door and told to make an appointment with your GP who would probably tell you it is viral anyway.
No wonder they are not so keen on employing us UK nurses here, we would struggle with sympathy, particularly those who take their children to the doctor because they have sneezed and demand antibiotics.
..
Hi all
As a staff in Hamad hospital, I am very happy to read these positive remarks and comments.
I think people here are doing their best to treat patients, although we still need to improve some of the facilities, but still, compared to gov. hospitals I saw in some other middle east countries, HMS is nearly the best of all.
The main problem now is the crowdedness, People in qatar are more than the capacity of the hospital. Sometimes we admit patients from ER, and they stay there for few days waiting for empty beds!!
And on the contrary, some patients and their families refuse to go home despite improvement.
My last comment to kinimoto is that all doctors really should watch patch adams, which is based on a true story, and it is full of good ideas on how to deal with patients (communication skills) which most of staff lack
thanks to all
I had a surgery there last year and the service was amazing - the nurses, the food , the caterers, the anesthsia staff, the surgeons and everyone. The only "bad " experience I can remember was at the cashier counter where they could not understand how much money my surgery would cost and how much to charge me.
They sent me home pretty quickly too.
I had to remove my jewellery before the X-ray and unfortunately I forgot to take them from the changing room. I remembered many hours later, at night in fact ( around 10 pm) and they were still there, thank God.
I am really impressed by their services and thankful to them too.
Recently I visited the Omar Bin Khattab PHC and my two children and I were seen and treated all within half an hour of my arrival there.
AP
I have 2 kids , one was born here, and I have to go to the Pediatric emergency at least once a month..my wife fractured her hand, I was down many times with flu..and I always went to Hamad...it is good..
...Avada Kedavra..
i totally agree with countrylady...i just gave birth 2 months ago, and their service was really really GOOD! contrary to what i heard from other people...
Thanks to HAMAD FOR THE BEST SERVICE...
My wife is an ICU nurse with more than 7 years exp. She will come to Doha on 7 june 09. Hope she can get a nursing job in Hamad Hospital. We are Malaysian. Im now staying at Matar Qadeem. Actually i had submitted my wife CV and they asked her to come for interview when she arrives here. They will give her a test and interview. May i know what type of test is that? How about the salary range? Benefits?? They said they still can consider her for oversea hire even thought she is here for interview. Anyway, hope to hear from u soon.
Hamad hospital is great. The facilities and the health care team is well equipped.
But it's the communication that matters most.
The doctors in the out-patient clinics only read whats written in the referral letters. They don't even bother to lay the diaphragm of the stethoscope to auscultate the patient's lung fields.
Definitely no interaction involved.
There are two things they need to do:
1. Improve their language skills
2. Watch Patch Adams.^_^
well, i don't know man. maybe because you're a european or something but my experienced was different. I had an ear infection that hurts like hell that I could lose my balance, so I went to the main Hamad hospital. The Filipina nurse (which is my kabayan) was so nice and immediately sent me to emergency because I explained it to her that my ear really hurts that time. And then when the doctor ask me what was wrong, and i told him I had an ear infection and its really painfull. "He said we do not have an ear specialist here. You have to go to a walk in clinic located near Doha Jadeed". I was like, what? this is The Main Hospital...no specialist here? So no choice have to go to the walk in clinic, have to resist the pain I had. When got to the clinic, the waiting line was forever.
sigh....
Hw r u 2day.Ofcourse being a nurse i should rite my c plans in english only, not in anglish.I am not bothered about how u r feeling what u r experienceing. s ur nothing to me.everything comes out with personal experience.I commented about my personal experience and the incidents happened to my friends and colleques.
My English ....? what is ur prob.Atleast i am making like you ppl understand what i wanted to say.Change your habit of insulting ppl. comment only on the topic, don't find fault on ppl afterall we all are human beings.
take care.
Hello!!! for the good comments... what are you thinking?
thankyou for what?
Ha ha .. clever Dora... in English for sure... Anyway, to those people who gave such good comments... thank you so much:)))
meshakjames...I'm curious.....do you document your care plans in English?
Yes tell the ideas
waiting to hear your coments. S I am a Nurseworking in qatar. Awaiting
James
I have to agree with karboghol.... the wait in private hospitals is far greater than Hamad, and I must say their childrens emergency is wonderful.
I once waited 2 hours in Al Emadi, still had 9 people in frint of me (there were 10 when I got there) so I left, drove to Al Sadd childrens emergency and seen a Dr. within 20 minutes and paid nothing (my son was born here so all his meds for the first year are free).
I have also had surgery at Hamad and the Drs, staff, facility and general treatment were superior to any I had in Canada.
Hope you feel better soon sweety, dislocated hip is painful.

I believe you are wrong here with the thing of queue at Hamad Emergency. I always visit private Hospitals and espcially the "experience love" hospital...lol... Even at Emergency in Al Ahli and while I was so sick that I was not able to even stand, they made me stand for at least 10 mints just to give them the proper documentation and their stupid forms, moreover after filling up their necessary documents they made me wait for the doctor 40 complete minutes... But with Hamad I have always experienced that they simply give you the best.
R U nurse ? Where is ytour location.Where are at present. according to that i can give some ideas if u r still interested!
S it is for educated ppl but for poor / illeterate expats from nepal, srilanka and india?it is very hard to digest we have to wait long way to see a doctor at emergency at times. there is language barrier prevalance at all the levels of HMC.You know some thing most of the staffs from HMC are resiging because of the ill treatment from their higher authority.
Still i can say the private hospitals are better atleast they serve best for what we pay.
But ur case i sh'd say gook luck.
wish you speedy recovery
May i know how to apply for nursing job in Hamad Hospital?
yep i also had a great experience with them. very great!
action speaks louder than words
yep i also had a great experience with them. very great!
action speaks louder than words
still the best for me, never have a problem with them.
REALLY GREAT EXPERIENCE BRAVO!!!
HAMAD HOSPITAL IS D BEST!!!! WE SALUTE YOU GUYS ALL THE EMPLOYEE OF HAMAD....
I went there last year. My son collided with his friend in the playground and had an accute concussion. We rushed him to hamad emergency ... No question asked ! they treated him straight away.
Very impressed !
yes, i agree with you.
years ago my mom had been brought to Hamad Hospital.
They were very accomodating and i believe the doctors and nurses there were competent.
the services there were good and the food they serve to the patients.
i must admit that i had the impression that since it is a government facility...IT MUST BE WORST!
BUT I AM TOTALLY WRONG SO TO SAY...
I am very grateful for all the medical staff for they were doing their best. Also like to extend my sincerest thanks and deppest gratitude for Qatar government for the support to Hamad Hospital. They had the state of the art equipment and world class facilities.
Not to mention the lower cost compared to private hospital.
I salute the men and women in Hamad Hospital especially in the Emergency and Cardiology Department! You are indeed awesome...I won't forget how you treated my mom:-)
thanks dora,feeling good,
Glad you have been treated well! It is a great hospital although some slate it! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
well i look at it this way, we are in hospital not the ritz,we have friends ,family to bring in food, i think some people just like to make life hard for these people who are doing an exerllent job,the rooms are spotless the house keepers came in 3 times a day,
It's lovely to hear positive comments about the only hospital that can treat true emergencies here. Gives me some hope if I am ever in the situation where I might need their services. Most people I know say that Hamad does indeed give excellent care, but they do complain about the food, the rooms, the wait and other incidental things.
I totally agree with you. I am a person who underwent 4 surgeries there.
their well trained staff some patient's or their relatives they like to create trouble.(problem's) i don't understand them.WHY???
SPECIALLY THE FILIPINO'S THEIR LOVELY AND NEAT...
I CAN ASSURE U THE FOOD'S WE SERVED WAS CLEAN AND SAFE.
