Gulf News temporary insanity

ngourlay
By ngourlay

This is a few days old, but I thought I'd share it with QL. On Saturday, Gulf News, which is one of the better English-language papers in Dubai, decided the world should know the 'truth' about the holocaust. According to the Dubai daily, "the Nazi holocaust was a mere lie, which was devised by the Zionists to blackmail humanity." The full article is here.

Since the article appeared, many people have written to the newspaper to complain, but none of the letters has been published. Those journalists who have the ability to leave are polishing their CVs.

An article like that doesn't appear in a Gulf newspaper by chance. The editor will have been told to place the story by a member of the Dubai government. Let's hope we don't start to see similar stories appearing in the Doha papers.

We will never know for sure how many were killed but it was millions. Not only Jews were killed on the order of this nutter, but anybody who he deemed was not worthy.

So not only Jews suffered at the hands of this despot.

I do not agree for one minute with what England did, the Jews wanted to go back to what they perceived was the Promised Land. Who promised that bit of land????

The thing with the Jewish problem; America had joined the second world war in an attempt to help GB. We all know the 'special' relaitionship the US has with Jews. Lets face it, Israel has nothing, so how do they survive? American backing................we all know that.

So, what to do with the American friends after they had been targetted by a mad man. Give them what they wanted; The Promised Land. Who got the most from that agreement.....the Americans. They now control the Middle East. GB had to go along with that as they were grateful the US had stepped in to help them.

The Jews have always used the Holocaust as their trump card and always will. Yet they have created their own Holocaust in Gaza. You would think they would know better.

Nobody can deny their was a Holocaust and there have been others since....think the Serbian/Bosnian war...think South Africa...think about Somalia/Sudan.

What happened was truly awful but I do think The Jews should stop playing the victim and get a grip.

I will hoist that up the flag pole and see who salutes it!!

Let's suppose the Holocaust is a fact. Let's suppose 6 million Jews starved or were killed by Nazis. But then twice more Russians also died in the war. Millions from other nations that were not involved in the war also died. Japanese innocent souls were also burnt by US atomic bombs.

Now, do these events give the Russians a pretext to commit other holocausts? Do the Japanese have the right to massacre whoever does not show sympathy to Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Secondly, if at all any holocaust took place, it was the Europeans and Christians who committed it. Why should the Muslims suffer for something they are not responsible? As Ahmadinejad once said, why weren't the Jews given a home in Germany or America?

Thirdly, let's suppose it was right that homeless Jews were given a home in Palestine. Why has the US and Europe given the Zionist State the right to invade and occupy neighbouring nations and never return their lands? Why has holocaust perpetrator been given green signal to illegally expand Jewish settlements and entrap Palestinians in every possible way?

It must be remembered that, as a Palestinian said, as long as there is no justice, there won't be peace. And history repeats itself. If today the Palestinian Muslims are at the receiving end, there will be a time when the Israelis, the Americans and whoever is allowing injustice to continue, will be at the receiving end.

Your comment triggered a thought. What if this is all a ploy to sell more papers? The timing is perfect...it has started debates here on QL and who knows where else.

IT IS ONE OPINION---but this could be what the paper needed CONTROVERSY--perhaps even spawning other controversial opinions like this one to be in future editions.

This will also give readers an A-HA! thought: Wow, the paper actually allowed this article to be written and published? What other controversial articles will be

allowed? Will there be any backlash due to the article being published? I guess I will log on or buy a paper to find out.

If the reporter is leaving due to the publishing of this editorial----that's more controversy!

Controversy sells papers.

the story was under the opinion column, not the front/news page. therefore, the writer has the right to express his own views. nothing wrong in it. news papers are created to be a medium of diverse opinions so that the readers will have all the sides of an issue.

now for the gulf times to be really fair to all, it should print all those letters to the editors or perhaps invite a guest writer who will rebut this writer's views.

"According to an international commission report released by the Romanian government in 2004, Romania murdered in various forms, between 280,000 to 380,000 Jews in Romania".

It is important to mention that Jews were not the only minorities targeted by Romanians. They were not viewed as enemies of Romania, but inferior creatures that had to be killed in order to keep the Romanian race pure.

However, the Romanian Jews were most affected during WWII, with the second largest number, after Germany, killed and tortured. The Antonescu regime feared that the Jews would ally with the Russians and fight against the Romania. Even before WWII, laws were passed to ensure that Jews were not treated as equal citizens, with the belief that they were inferior creatures that caused diseases and disaster. Therefore the Antonescu regime, with the Iron Guard in the few months that they were in power, felt justified in killing a large number of Jews during the Holocaust. However, few Romanians are aware of this part in its history. The genocide that occurred in Romania has to be brought to light not only the international arena, but in Romania as well. With the return to democracy in Romania, individuals need to take responsibility and speak honestly about the past.

Only through an accurate examination of its history will Romania learn from the past and ensure that the tragedies that took place during WWII do not occur again.

Ah, yes, the holocaust issues, Which Holocaust are we talking about?

The Nazi and Jew holocaust?

The Stalin era holocaust?

The Chinese Revolution Holocaust?

The Khmer rogue Holocaust?

The Bosnian war Holocaust?

The Rwanda Holocaust?

The Darfur Holocaust? Many christians still being massacre in there.

Then and know, They are calling the Gaza conflict a Holocaust?

Statically there is not enough deaths to call it a Holocaust yet, Just a conflict.

Holocaust definition:

Noun

1. destruction or loss of life on a massive scale

2. the Holocaust mass murder of the Jews in Europe by the Nazis (1940–45) [Greek holos whole + kaiein to burn]

I'm waiting for the nuclear Holocaust, neither you and me will be writing in this forum.

Don't let the facts get in the way of your argument.

Holocaust denial is illegal in 13 countries. The USA isn't one of them as Holocaust denial is protected under the first amendment to the constitution. There are 27 countries in the EU, which means that you can't be put in jail in most of Europe for Holocaust denial.

The countries that prosecute most fiercely Holocaust denial have been the ones which perpetuated the genocide (Austria, Germany, and Romania). The UN Human Rights Committee has said that Holocaust denial laws are not incompatible with the universal declaration of human rights.

All of this doesn't matter one jot to the issue at hand. In almost every newspaper in almost every country, Holocaust denial wouldn't be given a platform. The Gulf News has associated itself with the fringe hate groups, and against the vast majority of journalists and historians.

I'm sure the Nazi Germans did widespread exterminations, and it included many Jews, but the number "6 million Jews" doesn't seem right, it's probably somebody's estimates.

I believe in freedom of expression, and freedom of the press. In the US, and most of Europe, you would be put in jail for SAYING anything against the "FACTS?" of the holocaust.

Why is the phrase "6 Million Jews died in the Holocaust" so sacred and unquestionable? You couldn't even say that the number is "1 million Jews, 0.5 million Gypsies, and 4.5 million cripples" without being considered antisemitic.

And they blame us for being offended when someone talks about the prophet in a bad way.

The original meaning meant complete destruction, usualy by fire. It also means "mass slaughter or reckless destruction of life"..

Theerfore it can apply to genocides of Rwanda, Cambodia or even Russia.

However, the Jews have cleverly (and rightly) adopted it to mean the destruction of jews and used the term to keep the focus on this issue.

Oh, my goodness, crazy is the word for that article. There are no facts or statistics, no historical perspective, no attribution. It is an hysterical anti-zionist rant relying on the "everybody knows" argument. Fortunately it is a "column" by a guest writer, not a news article. And it is a big deal. All that a news organization has to offer is journalistic integrity. When that is lost, all credibility is gone and the medium becomes untrustworthy. I pray that this doesn't happen in Qatar. I really cherish freedom of the press, when that is gone things get a little scary in this world. The Arab world must take note of the fact that the Israelis really know how to manipulate the media. Tzipi Livni is a consummate spokesperson for the Israeli propaganda. Even Netanyahu manages to sound reasonable in interviews although he gives me the shudders. They know better than to use inflammatory rhetoric that can backfire on them later. It's only when you watch their actions does the real agenda come out. I really wish for a "voice" for the Palestinian people. Hanan Ashrawi, where are you?

I know lots of people believe the Holocaust was fiction. They're wrong, but nothing I'm going to write here will convince them otherwise. Many, many people have been brainwashed into believing conspiracies about 9/11, the Holocaust, giant lizards ruling the world, and other such nonsense.

However, to repeat the conspiracies theories unchallenged in a national paper is irresponsible. There isn't equal access to the press: the vast majority of nut-job theories are excluded on the basis of their factual accuracy. People generally think that newspapers should be filled with truthful statements, and that fringe opinions should be restricted to crazies handing out leaflets at railway stations.

But what confuses me more than anything about this is the stupidity throwing a newspaper's reputation down the pan. How is Gulf News going to be able to recruit decent journalists when they publish this kind of article? Even if the editor believed the Holocaust deniers, if he had any common sense he would have asked: "Will my newspaper be able to function in its role as impartial truth-teller if I publish this?"

The holocaust did occur. As have other genocides and holocausts in history.

What is fascinating and perhaps irritates many people, is that whilst other genocides have been forgotten, Israel and the Jewish lobby has ensured that this holocaust is constantly remembered and have used this to "leverage" the cause of Israel.

Having said that, I take my hat off to Isreal and the Jews for doing this and punching above their weight.

Perhaps others need to learn from this.

Some believe that the universe and everything in it was a 'spontaneous' event; and that we evolved from monkeys!

Well the monkeys are those who believe in the falsehood and lie that is the theory of Evolution which has pretty much been debunked...in fact Darwin abused science for his own ends and fed the world a 'theory' not based upon observation or testing but rather from using logic devoid of ration hence he guessed and he theorised and presented these as facts...the atheists swallowed his 'shite' whole and but alas his nonsense has been exposed as fallacy devoid of a factual basis...

Which makes me question the 'holocaust'..yes the nazis were murderous and they killed jews, the disabled; the gypsies etc but never in the numbers being presented by the jews or those who put the evidence together post nuremburg...

the jews had been wanting a homeland; promised by Balfour in 1917 and the 2nd World War provided the opportunity to use the killing of jews to lay claim to palestine as the promised land...the US which emerged as the one of two Superpowers, after the UK, France, Germany had been exhausted in the war; began to create its new world order. the US pushed for jewish homeland in palestine to create leverage for its future plans in the muslim world...at the same time the US was inciting the world again colonialism and as a result the british, french were kicked out of their former colonies leaving the US to move in.

Thus there is no conclusive evidence that 6 million jews were exterminated by the nazis just like the theory of evolution; it is based on a hypthesis devoid of a factual basis.

This is the ultimate conspiracy theory - a work of lies and a lack of truth. Revising history is the work of totalitarians who wish to control the present by manipulating the past. George Orwell foresaw all of this. I don't support the right of people to question history any more than I would support them trying to argue that 2 + 2 = 5.

If arguing about something that is demonstrably b*llocks is your idea of freedom of speech and that is what you cherish, then go off and find like minded people to discuss such nonsense but don't drag down the integrity of the public arena by discussing it openly as though it deserves some kind of serious consideration.
