Got hit by Toyota HiLux pickup Plate#24911

OK I got hit this morning by a hit and run driver in a double cab (4 door) Toyota Hi Lux pickup. White color with red and gold stripes Reg. Number 24911 It happened just near the Castle Compound roundabout across from the old Asian Games athlete apartments. Guy was swerving like mad, like some people often do. They think that are in Nascar or Formula One! He crashed into my right side and puched me into a Hummer H3t, and managed to drive off himself. Police have said they will "look into it" so I am turning to the Qatar Living community for help as I REALLY want to nail this guy. The plate was confirmed by many witnesses. What can I do? Anyone have similar experiences to help me out here? Should I be calling someone other than the police? By the way I had 3 small kids in the car with me and that idiot cold have injured someone badly. My daughter's arm was hurt slightly but no major injuries. Please anyone, give me some course of action that I can take as I am ready to track this man down.

Yes, the police did come to the scene. The police officer said, "I don't speak English. Go to Police station on Sunday morning." That just does not give me faith that they will do anything at all. Thanks ummjake for the good words! This guy deserves jail time or a fine at least. He could have hurt many people. In fact he drove off without even knowing if he had hurt anyone! I simply cannot fathom the kind of person who would do that. It really hurts the image of local drivers honestly. Ok enough said. I'll post on how the police visit goes in the morning.

They WILL find the individual, but justice is slow to work here. You need to keep harping on them or it will move to the back burner.

If you can, have a Qatari friend/colleague help you maneuver the system. On your own it sucks.

I was victim of a hit and run a few years ago. Minor injuries, thank God. Guy eventually turned himself in (I had a partial plate and description, so they were just about to arrest him), saying he had to rush his family home and that's why he didn't stop (yeah, right).

It took me almost TWO YEARS to get the matter settled in court here and have his insurance pay out for my totalled car.

Courts were on holiday for the summer, then I needed doctors at Hamad to sign off on my file for the court, then the cop on the scene wasn't available, then the dweeb who hit me never showed up to court dates for months on end -- meanwhile I had dutifully taken off work to show up at court each month.

Judgment was eventually given in my favor, but I never received any of the QR 3000 judge said I was owed for my injuries, nor did I ever hear confirmation that guy was fined/ticketed for hit and run or overtaking on left.

My additional expenses (rental car, buying new vehicle, broken eyeglasses and other material inside vehicle) were unrecoverable.

The best thing to do so far is the last advise given by PM: 'I would advise keeping on the police about it by visiting them daily until the matter is resolved.'
