knox… I don’t know what exactly happened between Hummer and DaRu, but I would like to comment on your post.

Before any web stie starts making money from the advertisements, a lot a lot a lot of hard job must be done. Those who wants to advertise on any web site want to make sure that people will see their adds. So it’s not easy just to go and make “another QL”, and start making money. You have to make your site popular. PEOPLE will have to WANT to go to your site and post there.  Eventually PEOPLE, POSTERS make site going on.

 Qatari made Qatarliving. QLers made Qatarliving Great.  It’s a hard job and great desire of both – Forum admin and Forum members.

So if someone creat a new website, it is a biiiiiig question whether this site will sucseed... We know couple of similar sites were created.. and who hear about  them now?????

Just for the record ..... I remember that one time Mr. Darude has "deleted " my post because he didn't like my suggestion about the gatherings of the social group (http://www.qatarliving.com/node/77727) . So, Hummers you're not alone :) From that time, I just feel less enthusiastic about any activity held on Ql . It's a bit sad, but that's life :)

there are many other expat gathering around Doha. Million of them ... Get the marhaba book and start reading them.

As for myself ... i always posted the latest infos in calendar about the activities of expat gathering that i frequently attend.

I used to be a very active member of exaptwoman.com (the old chat board) , helping out alot of new comer who arrived in Doha. Somehow it pissed their admin because i keep giving away my e-mail in the forum. And i got bannd ... oh well ... i respect their decision ... they dont like me ... i go somewhere else.

The rest is history ...

As usual always a fan of DaRuDe. Learn to be impartial. No doubt that DaRuDe has put in more effort into QLSG than anyone else and that why he has my full backing for the post of admin of QLSG. But deleting someone's post just because he/she advises that there is another outing group other than QlSG shows how sincere the admins are in the quest to integrate the newcomers to the Qatar arena.

I guess next time if someone asks about meeting people in Qatar and I advise him to join another xyz website my post will be deemed offensive and shall be deleted.

It all boils down to revenues.

It is the same if I tell a patient infront of his doctor to go to another doctor, the current doctor will find it offensive and degrading and probably consider me as someone intent on taking away his patients and closing down his business.

It all about money and fame.

There has been and still are alot of websites and forums about Qatar, and yet QL is still thriving and there are new members everyday, that goes to show that no matter what happens QL is the best. Qatari has done a fanstastic job, and I'm sure he started this website not thinking about the money but how to help others...not everything is about money u know. 

As for Darude, QLSG would no longer exist if it wasn't for him and none of us would've made so many friends.

So Knox...u haven't been to any of the events, and u don't know how much time and effort Darude puts into them...so don't comment.

DaRuDe dude I am sorry to say but a social group is supposed to help people to meet other people. If someone advertises about a social outing courtesy of another website I suppose you will ask him to delete his post.

I guess another website like QL will hit the revenues of qatari. Anyways DaRuDe I dont see your interest in it other than that if an outing is arranged by people outside QL you wont be invited to it.

Dude I guess you should make a list of your interests and things that are not your concern.

Darude, chill. It's no big deal. So what if a few users leave QL and go somewhere else ? There's more than enough regulars and people who love QL to keep it going, and ofcourse Qatari's hard work hasn't gone to waste, look at all the good things that have come out of this wonderful website. I don't see anything wrong if someone chooses to leave QL or if someone suggests leaving to others. They're free to do what they want, aren't they ?

I was giving advise to some new member's last night about social outlets outside of QL and made a suggestion that they should maybe start a new social group.

I was immediately told to EDIT MY POST - I refused to and now the post is gone.
