Global support pouring in for fire-hit QAWS
Was Reading the Gulf times today and i was very happy to read the below Article on QAWS... it is so good to see that so many people and NATIONS have been effected by this.. God works Miracles... QAWS will truely be bigger and Better...
"Following the tragic fire which took place last Thursday at the Qatar Animal Welfare Society (QAWS), the group has been inundated with offers of assistance, not only from within Qatar, but from other countries around the world as well.
After losing their entire shelter in the fire, the group has been desperately trying to deal with the ensuing problems as quickly as possible.
And although they were aware of a large community following, even they have been left shocked and in awe of the “incredible response” the accident has drawn.
And now they are not only receiving support from the local community, but has been promised help from as far afield as the US, Egypt and Holland.
Pet adoption co-ordinator, Kelly Allen told Gulf Times that an animal welfare group in Holland is taking donations in aid of the QAWS rebuilding project, and depending on the amount raised, they will send over a carton of equipment and supplies for the shelter.
As well as offers from other countries, Allen explained that a Dubai-based architect has offered to help with the design and plans for the new shelter on a pro bono basis.
This has been added to the numerous other pledges of assistance from Qatar to mean that coping with the devastation caused by the fire has become a less daunting prospect than it might otherwise have been.
Byrne has provided generators to restore power to the boarding kennels at the farm, and GAC has provided two large storage containers to hold some of the supplies, which have already been donated to QAWS.
Allen expressed her gratitude to them and other groups for their consideration.
Almost all the animals are “doing very well”, according to Allen, who explained that a female cat called ‘Snow’ who was caught by the flames, is the only animal suffering from major injuries, but even she is on the road to recovery.
Most of the animals needing temporary homes after the accident have been placed in foster care, but Allen explained that there are still eight dogs who need accommodation.
And she explained that the animals are also available for adoption and that people interested in taking in the animals on a permanent basis can contact her to arrange a meeting.
“We are still receiving a lot of calls about animals which have been found in Qatar, and although we cannot offer them a place at the shelter, we are always looking for people who would be able to offer foster homes in the future,” she said.
Whilst still awaiting the reports following the investigation into the fire, QAWS is unable to begin the cleanup process at the site, but they will be commencing the rebuild process as soon as possible.
Allen explained that the plans for the new facility will probably include more rooms and a slight capacity increase.
“We will also have added rooms for medical procedures and other special facilities,” she explained, adding “whatever happens, we will be bigger and better.”
Allen is also pursuing avenues for becoming an official entity for fundraising in the future.
And she urged people to continue monitoring the group’s websites for information about what supplies they require, but also for information about the animals who are up for adoption."

six of our dogs and three of our cats placed in foster care have won their temporary families over and been permanently adopted.....they will no longer need to return to the shelter as they now have loving new homes for life!
(one of their places has been taken though - by the poor dog found wandering on the corniche last night, now safely a QAWS rescue!)
I can help donate my always empty bank account to QAWS, its hardly used and very low mileage.
Jokes aside, i personally feel that after all this news coverage its a SHAME that Qatar will not do its part to register QAWS as a recognized Charity organization. I mean what more do they want? How hard is it? Its for a good cause yet we see money being poured into huge buildings that are left standing vacant with all its lights turned on for no good reason 24/7.
WAKE UP QATAR, if other Nations are willing to help why not you?
Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

... is so deserved for such a wonderful cause!!! :)
wow! awesome news!
I have to admit that we were not expecting the international response that we've had... Especially since the authorities HERE in Qatar didn't know we'd had a fire despite a full page article in the arabic press.
Our biggest problem is still not having a bank account as a lot of international organisations want to add to our building fund and we can't accept it. Fingers crossed we'll have an account before we start building and then things should go a lot smoother for us!

and like I said in the Iftar Drive thread...QAWS your are next on the list.
Congrats QAWS, you're not alone in this!!
Cheers
