Getting away from Vacation Intl
What's the real deal on escaping the timeshare company called Vacation International Travel & Tours?
I've read a ton of threads and articles about this company, where people complain about their pressure selling techniques to get you to sign a long-term contract and become obliged to pay large amounts of money without time to think it over.
I have also read Vacation Intl's contract (shown to me by someone asking for help) and the termination clause is pretty awful. If you have not given the complete advance, for example, you are in contract limbo and will keep getting their calls to pay up.
After contacting the Consumer Protection Department I found that they will not consider a case without receiving information such as a copy of the contract and payment receipts. The consequences of filing an official complaint are not entirely clear, so if it complicates things further I don't want to go that route yet.
Anyone able to get out of Vacation Intl's contract successfully before completing the advance payment stage? How? Can you simply ignore them? If you complained at the CPD what exactly did they do for you?
Also, in other countries there is something called a "cooling off period" where you can rescind a contract within the first week for particular reasons. Do we have that here in Qatar? Attempts to do so amicably and in person were met by the company with demands for payment before any cancelations can happen.
I'm tired of reading comments/articles that just tell people to beware or insult them for being dumb and gullible. There must be something people can do even after a transaction has taken place.
It's just that everyone posts their complaints within the first few days of signing their contract, asking for help, and then they don't come back to update what they ended up doing next. In my case a refund doesn't matter. I want to know if they got out of paying more by ignoring.
Frankly I don't have the time/resources to coordinate an actual meeting between all the victims and to hire a lawyer. If somebody found a solution I wish they would share it...at least as a starting point for everyone else.
Still throwing this out there in case anyone has a tip.
I think most of the QLers who got trapped in similar situation are expecting someone to guide them to get their money back. I am not expecting someone to give you a clear guidance on this subject in QL. It will be better all you guys who paid money to Vacation Int'l meet together and discuss the plan. I will suggest to get some legal advise as well from a competent lawyer.
