I recall a few years ago a pool started adding a chemical to the water. If someone peed in the pool, then the water around them would turn dark blue.

Customers actually complained and they had to remove it :o)

Tarot, I guess the month by month contract would make things easier but the "cheap" prices would not justify the poor maintenance. We are talking about lives being put in danger here.

The thing is.... it's very cheap there. Things I like about Ezdan, and the reason I stay there are:-

Month by month contract

I am happy with my room

House keeping are good

The gym is excellent

The internet connection is excellent

The little shop is adequate and useful

Parking is easy

I consider it good value

But with all of the problems, I may not be staying there much longer.

I live in one of the Ezdan towers and could watch the fire. I found it very annoying to read how the Manager of Ezdan Towers is lying about the "only the best materials" the towers were made of.

Ezdan Towers on West Bay is in a very poor condition. Every day something breaks in my flat. When engineering comes to repair, they mostly don't have stock to do their job properly. They just go to some other empty flat and take what they need. I could tell you a lot of stories about leakages, loose contacts, not working airconditions, broken lightbulbs, dirty flats, windows that are unwashed since 1 year...

On Friday the 20th of May (one day before the tower 1 fire) there was a fire at Tower 3. One of the mainboards (electricity) burned. That's why parts of tower 3 are without any electricity since 3 days now. Before they can repair this, the part has to be shipped from India, can you imagine?!

The fire alarm rings every now and then even though there is no fire. Result is: noone feels alarmed anymore should it ring to warn you about a real fire. Noone believes in it anymore.

The smoke detectors don't even work. A while ago my kitchen was full of smoke due to burned rice, but no fire alarm did warn me.

The fire men just stood there watching while our engineering people killed the fire. Isn't that unbelievable!?

Oh, if you could see the poor engineering people, now. The are trying to repair the damaged facade at Tower 1. The usually used boom on the rooftop that's holding the gondola the engineering people are sitting in is not working. That's why the gondola is held on one of its sides by a selfmade boom from outside a window. How long that's gonna last, I don't know! I pray for them.

EZDAN?! Safety Standards? LOL!

The place was constructed for Bavaria Hotels, who rejected it outright due to poor quality construction and withdrew from the project.

Here is an article from 2007. Amazing how people forget these things so quickly.

"Bavaria Hotels International withdraws from Doha project

Dubai, July 2007: Bavaria Hotels International Chief Executive Officer, Thomas H. F. Gertz, today announced the cessation of Bavaria Hotels International management responsibilities with respect to Bavaria City Suites Doha, Qatar.

Citing the contractor’s failure to deliver the Bavaria City Suites Doha project in accordance with the required Bavaria Hotels International specifications and agreed hand-over schedule, Mr Gertz advised that this difficult decision was taken to protect the integrity, brand values and standards associated with Bavaria Hotels International.

“I have every confidence in the hotel and tourism development in Qatar, and remain convinced that the high demand for professional hotel management, fueled by economic growth will provide future management opportunities for Bavaria Hotels International in the country.

With the recent announcement of the Bavaria Executive Suites project in Sharjah, the development of Bavaria Executive Suites Dubai and ongoing negotiations within the GCC and internationally, Bavaria Hotels International is an internationally established German company, and will continue to expand according to its core philosophies and principles.

The decision to withdraw from a project that fails to meet the exacting standards set by Bavaria Hotels International should reassure both guests and owners of our uncompromising commitment to quality, comfort and the satisfaction of both guests and employees.” Commented Mr Gertz.

Bavaria Hotels International personifies German quality and hospitality, and is committed to delivering outstanding quality and commerciality within the global hospitality marketplace, to the benefit of guests, partners and owners.

Does anyone know what caused this fire?

I live in Tower 2, I saw the fire when it first started, when it was small. I had my friend run downstairs and inform the Security as I also called down and informed the front desk. When I called the front desk, I told her there was a fire on the observation deck around the 18th floor in Tower 1. This woman put me on hold for about 20 sec. Then she got back on and said. "Ok sir, I will contact the reception and inform them." No sense of urgency or anything from her. Then my friend (who ran downstairs) gets a hold of a security guard and tells him. This man turns to him and says, "Tell her, not me"...WTF!!!

I looked at my watch from the time I saw the fire until the time any sort of response personnel showed up. It took 20 minutes before anyone reached the deck!

I read the article in the Gulf Times and how they gave the credit to the Fire Brigade. HORSESH#T!!!! It was the bell boys, the pool staff, the security guards that put out the fire. The Fire Brigade showed up and ran into the pool area to make sure the chairs and tables were moved. Who gives a SH@T about tables and chairs! Where was the common sense to move everyone out of the area where falling debris was coming down (still on fire, I might add).

As I looked back up at the building I could see 2 workers (bell boys) half hanging out of a window with a water hose putting out the fire. I did not see one Fireman or Civil Defense person doing anything like that.

My hats off to the staff that clearly put this fire out. They are the true heros and need to be commended for their actions.

Oh and Mr. Mohamed Salah...I beg to differ. You have no safety standards! You have no contingency plan at all for these type of situations! After watching the staff try to use fire extinguishers, they clearly were not trained on how to operate them. If utilizing staff to be first responders to any fire is in your plan, at least give them the proper training. As for your top quality materials, I'm sorry Mr. Salah, you have been misguided. This fire spread rapidly. If it weren't for your bell boys, the damage would have been more severe.

As for me, what I saw yesterday was enough for me to change residents. Because I lived in Tower 2 I guess it was part of Mr. Salah's high safety standard/plan to not inform me that a fire broke out until well after the fact. My company has been a resident here for 5 years. As of the end of this month, we will be residents no longer.

b*sh*t!i would like to ask Mr. Mohamed Salah - is it safety in case of fire in one tower - do not inform ppl from other towers and evacuate them also? as i know they SHOULD evacuate all towers in such situations! also - is it safety when poor workers tried to safe cheap stuff in swimming pool under fire and got risk for their health and life just coz of cheap stuff?

one more: the fire brigade was really fast and professional. thanx for them. but Ezdan management and stuff wasn't ready for any extreme situation!

P.S. sorry for ruff speach

Gulf Times Today:-

Fire causes minor damage to building

A fire broke out in the Ezdan Towers in West Bay yesterday.According to information received from different sources, damage to the building housing the offices of the real estate group, was minor.

According to an Ezdan spokesman the fire broke out around 1pm on the front side of Tower One. “The fire caused only very limited damage to the complex, mostly in the front exterior” he said.

“Fortunately the timely arrival of the fire brigade, civil defence and police helped in extinguishing the flames quickly,” the spokesman said.

In a statement issued in the evening, general manager of the Ezdan Towers, Mohamed Salah, thanked all who helped in bringing the situation under control.

He said Ezdan Towers followed the highest safety and security standards and top quality materials are used for its construction.

As usual there must be only one of the two possible culprits behind this fire... a smoker or a short circuit...hope civil defense sprung into action on time and is in control of the fire by now.

I wonder why fire breaks out more often in Qatar than elsewhere that I know.
