Fine for Spitting???

I've seen some signs along the roads where it says that the fine for spitting in the street is QR500, have anyone actually seen or heard if this is enforced or not.
It appears as if this is another rule or law which exist but is not enforced as I still see it daily as you sit and wait at traffic lights that a cardoor would pop open followed by a head and then a glob would be splattered in the street. Sickening to my stomach but fortunately I've learned to look away the moment I see a door being opened.

Our company driver recently got fined by the Traffic Police for spitting while driving. The fine was for 5000 not 500. Payroll had to take it out from his salary for the duration of months he agreed to pay for. Poor guy, learned it the bad way. If you need to spit by all means, get some tissues and leave it in the car for the time of 'spitting needs'.

Prior to moving to Qatar, I lived in China for 3.5 years. If people easily get sick, DON’T go to China. Everyday occurrence to witness a Chinese granny hocking one up from the deep and letting it fly.

I lived in one apartment complex and the sounds from people early in the AM were used like the chicken roosters, hear the noise, time to wake up and start your day.

Worse one witnessed was when I was eating a nice hotel dinner. Guy next to my table harvested one from the deep and planted it right there on the carpet beside his table. Freaking Nasty!

If you spit in front of the Officials you will be fined. I know a private taxi driver who paid the fine for spitting.

LoL at Brit for "fine for spitting" !

my driver once did that, and i asked him why he do that because it's disgusting, he just jokingly told me, it would be more disgusting if I swallowed it! :(

I hope they will have a strong stand on this as what they do in Singapore... 500 Singapore Dollar fine for spitting in public (well, that was the last time when i was there 2 years ago)

Do they teach that kind of thing in school? Or is more of a "one generation to the next" kind of thing?

It is ofcourse an art. Developed from years of practice. Like an Opera singer and his voice, the phlegm has to be brought from deep down in the bowels before being expelled using inner muscular and pneumatic strength..

Yes, it seems to be a rather elaborate undertaking.....

disgusting, isn't it! i feel provisions should be made to have a waste basket incorporated into every car! so, no spitting on the street right? or have a water gun placed in the car..so the moment the door opens and a head pops out...bang goes the water gun! :P

I know some people who was fined for this offence. This is not enforced by Police. It is undercover Baladiya Officials. If you get caught no chance. The first time I witness this was in 2006 to one of my assistant near sofitel hotel. He got caught Red Handed.

I was walking with Rizks along the Corniche when he spat on the sidewalk. I glared at him and asked why he did this. He said "Can't you see the sign ? It says 'Fine for spitting'" :o(

How will they enforce it...the streets would have to be lined with police men to catch all those disgusting spitters.
