A few quick questions for the community

I hear (and saw an inconclusive set of posts here in QL) that Palm Tree Island has been closed and perhaps even torn down. Is this definitely true? And dare I ask why?

Also, does anyone know when the bookstore in City Center will open? Or the Virgin store in Villagio?

Thanks for people who posted a few weeks earlier with regard to the ridiculous situation in my old compound, where the entire compound was sold with no notice to any of the tenants (or tenants' employers) and with an immediate halt to security, maintenance and trash collection. I was sorry to hear from your posts that this didn't seem like an unusual situation here. My family and I have been lucky, thanks to the intervention of several helpful people. We are now living in a brand-new house in a new compound with great maintenance.

I hear that the new owners of the former AL-MISNAD COMPOUND in Al-gharrafa (off al-Almas street near the big mosque by the roundabout that has Gulf English School) have at least provided some minimal secuirty and occasional trash collection since we've left. I truly hope these residents will get more satisfaction. And the former and even current owners of this compound should be ashamed of themselves for leaving all of these families in the lurch for at least several weeks! I guess that's about all of the sanction that these people are going to get.

Anyway, thanks to those of you who replied to my earlier thread. Enjoy the thaw everyone.

I believe that it will open next week. They were due to have opened last Thursday, but had some delays. The Dulce Cafe opposite the Megastore will open Monday insallah next week IF they get the fibre optics for the computer system through customs!

The fountain suggestion was originally made a long time ago, the intention being that it was to be the biggest in the world.

I think it was eventually established that the water in the bay is not deep enough for such a project.

I think it was also established that the amount of water going up (if it had been viable) would have sunk any dhows passing under it when it came down. We also joked about it providing a free "jet wash" to planes landing at the airport.

Vanity and Vanity of the mind. Why don't they take the money and invest on road renovation on the industrial area. That is so pathetic.....

All that is left of Palm Tree Island is one tree. That's it. They tore the whole thing down this past summer. I never really heard why. It really needed a makeover but I don't know why it was leveled.
