Fancy a good party in Qatar ?

By spoerry

Hi there !

We're several people finding that it could be good to create a massive unique event in Qatar ... Don't you find that the events in place start late and finish early ?

So the plan would be to have a very large place, bbq, swimming pool (cooled), djs (good if possible, otherwise winamp will do), heavy sound, till the next day (and not till 2 as in Doha "clubs" ;) )

The purpose is absolutely not to make money out of it (my experience in terms of organising partys has always been events that do not lose money - or few ;)

What do you think of it ? Any good contacts for organising this in Doha ?

Qatar International Tours is QIT. They offer quite a large choices of tours. Thats why i asked Christophe to contact the manager Marwan to help him out if he want to set a tent for the party.

I have heard that QIT Tours do an overnight tour in the desert. They have airconditioned large tents to socialise and sleep in. They have a party/BBQ on the sands which is also next to the sea for swimming. Maybe they could just add the alcohol and music and organise something? At the very worst, you could take your own music set up and even have fun without the alcohol?

hows evrything going? any progress?

By spoerry• 29 Aug 2006 14:08

yes if we organise such a party, it has to be either in a dedicated place with no sound coming out of it, or in a place very far from any neighboor so that it would hopefully not disturb anybody.

CNA-Q was threatened for one of thier apartment complexes throwing a big party. YOu would never get away with a party like that here. And it would be awfully rude to inflict on your neighbours.

Well, i have experience of these things in the UAE, but laws here are often similar. For example, some things that are points of concern in the UAE.

Public gatherings need prior govt approval.

Re-selling alcohol is illegal without a license

Charging an entrance fee is illegal w/o a license

Erecting a large tent needs approval (unless its on your property or in the desert)

Loud music may attract complaints (so you need to be away from where people live)

The most successful way to do it is through an events agency or a hotel. Takes the headache out of it.

A good party i went to in abu dhabi (years ago) was on an island. We hired a boat from the Intercontinental and that included the use of the island. We then arranged for a generator, sound system, solid flooring, lighting etc etc. We sold "all inclusive" tickets.

... of such events ?

It's true the "legal" issue may be a problem. Though I suppose that in the context of a private party, and if nobody drives under alcohol, plus no neighboor, this should be fine ...

Its ramadhan in less than a month.... so youd better get your skates on. Plus, you may need to find out if its legal. Im not sure but i would think a huge gathering of people getting drunk in a tent with loud music would certainly attract the attention of the police. Better to be safe than sorry.

u can contact Qatar International Tour, find the manager there call Marwan (he is Jordanian guy), i am sure he can help you with setting up the tent for the party.

By bajesus• 28 Aug 2006 22:36

u can install air conditioners in tents here, i assumed u knew that. Qatari's hold social gatherings in elaborate tents here so were always prepared. And if u must save on even that the weather will get cooler soon.

By spoerry• 28 Aug 2006 22:12

but unfeasable regarding to air temperature these days I think ...

Very good idea when the air will be cooler !!

I think we should meet with or without a party. It says in ur profile ur from Greece. Dont know any1 from there and am considering going there after i come back from china.

By bajesus• 28 Aug 2006 22:05
bajesus

I dont know if its feasable but I just thought of something. Instead of renting a place u could save up by having it done in a big tent and then u have a theme to it. I think it'll be cheaper and more interesting that way.

By spoerry• 28 Aug 2006 21:53

I meant something far more simple ...

- rent a villa

- rent a sound system - 5K will be plenty enough

- buy food / drinks

- find a few security guys

- have a fair (but cheap) price as an entry fee - covering all costs

- talk about that a little bit - buzz ... people should be a mix of fun Qataris and expats

- buy flowers as an after-party souvenir for ladys :)

- have a solution to clean the villa once everyone has gone :)

Does it seem feasible ? How much time to organize something like this in Qatar ? 1-2 weeks is enough ? (in France, one week would be enough)

Bugger, i wont be here by then. Im gonna start my studies abroad in feb. Hope Spoerr manages sumthing b4 that though. I wanna get the feel of partying b4 i leave. Wouldnt want to be percieved as a clueless, inexperienced saint when i get there.

By SuperXpat• 28 Aug 2006 21:31

Since I've been in Qatar for about 5 months, I don't know much about Dunestock, but as soon as I read about it on the qatarmusic site iasked around. People spoke highly of it & said that there were a few Qataris around who just enjoyed the music. Anyhow, I'll go to te next one with a bunch of friends, so if you feel ike it U can join us!

I generally thought Qataris werent welcome or arent allowed there. I dont even know where its held exactly. I personally would like to check for myself what its like but i dont want to feel like an outcast and seem like im imposing or anything.

By SuperXpat• 28 Aug 2006 21:01

Bajesus, apparently a few Qataris were spotted having a good timed in a previous Dunestock, but I wasn't there to see for myself!

I think theres something similar to what u described here. Isnt it called dunestock? its an annual event and the same minus the pool but i wouldnt know since qataris dont go there.
