Erection of bus shelters likely to be delayed
DOHA • The bus shelters being set up by Mowasalat in collaboration with a private company may not be ready by summer due to the infrastructure works going on around the city.
Q.media Decaux has already started installing the shelters at a few places in the city on a trial basis. The plan entails setting up 100 shelters in the initial phase. An official from Mowasalat, however, hinted that the work may not be complete by the scheduled date due to road and building works going on in many parts of the city.
"We understand there is a difficulty in demarcating the locations for the shelters and getting permission from the authorities due to the infrastructure works," he said. Q.media has also made it clear that it is awaiting consent from the authorities before finalising the
locations. The company recently announced that it had already installed five temporary shelters at five locations: two in Al Nassr Street, one in Ahmed Bin Ali Street, one in the Old Airport Street, and another in Bin Hanbal Street.
"The company is trying to test the durability of glass used in the making these shelters before installing the remaining 100 in Doha. Q.media Decaux needs the consent of authorities before resuming the project; otherwise it may have to remove them in case of infrastructure works. Given the climate of Doha, the company used high quality glass which reduces light penetration to 63 per cent and temperature to 40 per cent as compared with ordinary glass," said a statement issued by the company. The company also said that it is currently designing air-conditioned shelters. The primary designs will be finished and it will take a minimum of six months to manufacture the first prototype. "The shelters will be installed in safe, well-known places with the consent of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs," said the statement. The Mowasalat official said, the company was not in a position to further expand its fleet of city buses due to the severe space constraints at its main Al Ghanim terminal.
The terminal can accommodate only 85 buses at one time but the company is now operating 180 buses on a regular basis, with additional fleets during the weekends.

Damn Red P u beat me to it .. all i saw in this post was the word ERECTION hehehee man im sick...
The usage of the word **ERECTION** and **Durability** for those 'Shelters" spins some good old XXX-jokes. Why not edifying? "Every once in a while, declare peace -- it confuses the hell out of your enemies." - Quark quotes a Rule of Acquisition, "The Homecoming"
The justification is simply B S

If you read the article properly you'll see that the delay is due to the on-going construction work in Doha and the difficulties that creates in getting permission for the shelters from the authorities.
its no rocket science making bus shelters...
just go and get it from the supplier who is managing to do it in dubai instead of testing and prototype...and waiting 6 months.. i think it will take ages for the shelter let alone the a/c ones...by the time dubai would have metro :)
wow start of the week and a bad news already for the riding public :(
