Education City--As good as the US?
Over the past year or so I have had a number of colleagues in North America and Britain ask me about the sorts of graduates the Qatar Foundation produces via Education City. I have visited EC and have been impressed with the facilities and the names of the US universities involved--all at or near the top in their respective fields.
Is the education itself as good as what on would find at the home universities? Is someone hiring say an engineer from Texas A&M or a physician from Cornell from the EC campuses getting the same thing as from a top university in the US? If so, then fantastic, but a rather skeptical colleague once told me that it is just a rebranding of something like Qatar University (although I don't think he had any real inside knowledge).
I've read the "official" lines on the official websites, but what to people at QL think?
Well it is the way it has been created. The US universities transposed their curriculum here, with the same criteria. A physician from cornell Qatar has exactly the same knowledge and training as one in New-York.
This is also the big challenge of EC, keeping very high standard and at the same time having locals reach these high standard, when the pool of students is clearly lower than in the US (in number of course, not quality).
And EC and Qatar University are quite different entities.
