A Dog's Purpose( a 6 year old's veiwpoint)
A Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old).
Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?' The Six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'
So, live like a dog:
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY
"Sit, nadzmyrah. Sit." Oh my, can't imagine to be told something like that if i'd have to live my life like a dog. hehe
Dogs live only 12 years. After it dies the owner feels the emptiness. I felt it once and will never have another pet dog.
So better to keep an eagle or a falcon or a parrot or an elephant as a pet which will definitely outlive you!
I love your story, I cried while watching Marley & Me movie.
We have two pupiies right now 1.5 months old that we want to give for adoption, they have the same features at Dracula's post and the same color.

Thanks.

nice
4 year back some 1 hit my lettel brown dog at the road near my villa
i wish this could be sent by email to every single person on the planet ! especially in the arab world (where dogs are not appreciated)
the unconditional love of all pets is an amazing reality of which humans need still to learn from ! people would say: "its only a Dog" but nooo ... first its a soul, a creation of the All mighty, secondly it is the best companion a human can ever wish for !
if you are in danger, do you think the dog will run away? like all your so called "friends" would ??? people would argue that dogs are unaware of the "danger" but that is not true !!! take a moment to think of it, every animal on the planet is aware of danger, its the instinct to survive ! so why would a dog NOT abandon its owner? ... i will let you take a moment to reflect on this fact !
when i had my rottweiler taken away from me at the airport in Qatar, (breed not allowed in Qatar) i cannot describe the feels i was having ... i remember a police officer who talk to me to calm me down, do you know what he said??? "why do you need a dog, do you have sheeps? cows? dogs in houses is not good, the angels will not visit you if you have a dog inside the house !!" my reply came instantly: "how do you know? did they sms you or faxed you that they dont visit homes with dogs?????"
God bless all animals of this planet, the most beautiful of gods' creations ..

O My My...it is indeed a lovely post early in the morning...!
Absolutely delightful...we miss quite a few opportunities in our life that we HAVE to enjoy cos, remember people...the moments we sit down and sulk about things, we forget that those are MOMENTS that are LOST from this one shot at life that we got...
We get angry over things, frustrated, irritated, and just keep to ourselves and get bogged down, end of the day, THAT DAY is LOST!!!
So thats why they say, you might as well, NOT think about the FUTURE too much and ENJOY the MOMENT, there will come a TIME when you got to think about the FUTURE! DO it at that time, and NOT for YOUR entire LIFE! :)
O well, nevertheless, Lovely Post Scarlett....!!!
Nice one Thanks for sharing...... Scarlet

Life's a bitch and then you DIE! ;)
How I loved his books when I read the first one in 5th grade...He was the reason behind me going to a veterinarian university. (by the way, I didn't write this, it came to me from an email!..Oops sorry didn't mean to mislead anyone!)
If people would only learn from animals, just think how much better happier we'd all be!
I have two dogs that I adopted here in Doha and am still learning so much from them every day. My favorite thing I've learned is that you need to smile at the first person who comes down the staircase because you love them and they are going to let you out to go pee!!!
Thanks y'all, glad you enjoyed this thread.
If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you; that is the main difference between a dog and man.

That was really amazing. Nice post, Scarlett.
Dear Scarlett,
Thanks for this soul awakening post.
I think you should put all your musings into a book like James Herriot and let ordinary people understand what we humans can learn from animals. Animals are indeed special and are close to God as they already know what to do- whereas we human beings even if we spend an entire lifetime searching we may not find what we need to do.
God Bless, Scarlett,
AP
Wow....amazingly true....miss my dogs back home:((
