This might not be helpful to your dissertation, but its a thought I often have.

I am surprised that Qatar isn't really into billboard marketting.

Businesses and event organisers here seem to rely heavily on word of mouth.

& The use of internet for marketting purposes is also generally poor. I'm always struggling to find out info about doha businesses online (even if its just a map of how to get to the place)...I always come to QL for help. Businesses here just don't seem utilize the internet well.

Some of the global Qatari brands would be Qatar Airways, Qatar Foundation and QTel. I am sure the marketing personnel there would be very happy to help you. You'd also notice that all these brands are closely linked with Qatar itself. What values this signifies to customers would be interesting as well.

If it's related to marketing, how about general advertising strategies and how many shops fail to capitalize.

For example, I see ALOT of shops at night with their lovely large logo but no explanation of what they have or what they do. Or if they DO explain, they have it in tiny font or with a backlight that is impossible to read while driving.

The best dissertation is a one that sparks interest just from the title. There are lots of interesting topics out there.

Who's cheating? I just need to have an idea of what i can explore, i am not asking of how to do it. The problem as knoxcollege suggests is the confidentiality of information. I am trying to avoid getting into a project whereby i will lack material for it which could be the case here. I was thinking of exploring the stock exchange but most of the information is either confidential or in Arabic, the banking system - no published financial reports etc.

I know there is plenty to research on but if my research will put me on the wrong side of the law, then i have to find suitable alternatives.

Another project do some research on the SHELL PEARL GTL project as I believe they are taking the government for a ride a damn good one.

It's not to be rude, but can't you find a subject for yourself ? this is soemthing quite personal and depends on your own background and field of study. Dude the best thing is that you can easily go to the seven institutions of education city and find tons of students. and ask them to fill you survey forms. you can also get all the data from QF main office. You can get the number of locals/ foreigners in GCC plus how they are covering the tution fess, their job prospects, the option to stay in Qatar or leave.

you can get an idea how the universities are running, who is paying for the building, accomodation, professor fees, etc etc etc, research

But at the moment many things are confidential. I also wanna know the sources of funding but they are not disclosing due to some freakin pact.

You will get so much information that you wont believe it

The topic that knoxcollege suggested is an interesting one, for one of your sources you can interview high school and university students in education city, you should get some interesting feedback.

You can do research on the economic funding and the cultural impact.

Another idea - The marketing of Qatar to the world - donations to universities in the US, tennis tournaments in Germany, I think I read something about a horse race in England (something horse related). I'm sure there's loads more. It was visible during the Asian Games and I'm sure it will pick up now with this Olympic bid process.

I agree with labda06 - how about doing it on the lack of marketing here in Qatar. Loads goes into the prep work and very little into the day of. No one seems to care if anyone shows up or knows about it as long as the event makes the news.

There are so many events that go on in Qatar but you never hear of them unless by accident or through word of mouth. People in other countries would kill to attend some of the tournaments etc that are held here but because very few get to know that such events will be held in the first place, stadiums are very often half empty.

So many advertising opportiunities that lay dormant, major major potential.
