Discredited news agencies and websites that impact lives of expatriates and Qataris
When the regional crisis broke, several news sites anticipated the results a little too soon and produced click bait articles about economic insecurity and food shortages.
These news agencies and websites tried to threaten the country’s stability and created concerns for both locals and expatriates.
Instead of fact checking the situation in Qatar, they published articles that went around the world and resulted in alarming families of expatriates working in Qatar about the situation here.
Today, I would like to send a strong message to expatriates living in Qatar specifically — Qatar is ok.
Please do not be a victim of false yellow journalism. I was worried a lot, but the faith of expatriates and Qataris inspired me to write a piece to warn all of you not to be victims of news sites that doesn’t fact check before poisoning our minds and create instability.
There is an Arabic proverb that says stones are only thrown at fruitful trees. Our unity in building a tolerant cosmopolitan society makes us exposed to envious nations in the region. So let’s focus on keeping up the momentum of building our Qatar.
My friends, professors, colleagues and relative across the GCC and the world are in touch with me and I'm sure most of you have received similar communications at different levels.
My advise to all of you is to calm them down and not to contribute to the false fuel of the media. Do not say things until they are as clear as the sun in the sky in mid June.
