Desert Snakes

Killed 2 baby snakes black in color in my house. My baby was about to pick one and it just happened as a reflex. I normally do not kill animals. But I would like to know if they are dangerous. I spotted a green one in the grass. Lots of construction activity must have forced them out. Don't know much about desert snakes.

What I have heard about Doha snakes is that they are not poisonous. So relax. I was told they are only to be found in inhabited areas. However excavations during construction activities may be the reason.

The art of being wise is to know what to overlook.

Well Dweller, I don't want to be on the wrong side of the Gods. BTW, we worship rats as well so I think the cobra has enough bad Karma on him. Ofcourse, the gardner goes to heaven. (My husband will not like this reasoning).

Good job you aren't anywhere where there is a snake god. People could be calling for the death penalty.....lol.

We had a cobra in the garden once. The eggs were in some soil imported from Pakistan and hatched out in the heat. It kept te rat population down until out gardner killed it.

LOL. Mohan lets not forget our monkey, elephant and snake gods and the power they hold. It is part of being a Hindu and I believe and respect it. Killing snake is a bad omen.

Mom_me...the myth of Nagin...is just that a myth.

Although the movie "Nagin (Old)" was quite good....lol.

The myth goes that if a person kills a snake the last image it sees most probably of the killer stays on its retina & when its relative sees the image it would know who the killer is & tries to get even.

That was the myth of the Hindi movie "Nagin" which went on to be a box office hit.

Yes, a lot of construction activity is going in and around Muntaza where I live. Amazingly there are many rodent killers lying around so how do the snakes manage to survive. Because as far as I know snakes eat rodents. Anyways I have a solution now, thanks to Alexa.

you will find snakes in certain parts of Doha.

A few months one student was bitten by a snake in one of the schools in DOha. With the heavy construction work going on many a habitat underground has been disturbed. So dont consider it to be a surprise

Cornellian, there is a lot of mythology and beliefs about snake killing. Basically, snake killing especially the baby snake will get the mother snake angry and she is supposed to bite me. My husband is usually laughing me on these but I don't think he wants me to die any soon. I do like the idea of you giving him a 'piece of your mind' and while at that please tell him I am not cooking today or else.... (he is all yours... but please take it easy).

Darude - I live in Muntaza.

mrbeealikbean-Thank you. I feel I did right.
