How can it be possible?? I have so many questions...but cant ask it in a open forum like this..lol

Woman gives birth three hours after finding she was pregnant

Belinda Waite, 21, had been to her local hospital several times during the past nine months and says she was told she had a severe case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and gout.
In fact she was pregnant with a healthy baby girl who arrived a month ago.
Miss Waite, known as Billy, from Bampton, Devon, said:"You read about these stories in magazines but you never think they happen to real people and I certainly never thought it would happen to me."
Miss Waite was staying with her partner Wyane Boyles, 28, when she unexpectedly went into labour.
Their baby daughter Louise Boyles was born at home weighing 8lb 14oz by Wayne's mum Syliva.
Miss Waite said:"It was obviously a hugh shock for us all but you have to get on with these things and we are really enjoying it."
She said she had not felt well for some months before the surprise birth.
"I did feel like something was moving inside me as the months went on. But I never considered I was pregnant and it doesn't seem to have crossed the doctors' minds."
Miss Waite went to her local hospital in Tiverton and doctors said it was likely to be IBS.
On Christmas Day she was taken to hospital again after her hands and feet swelled up and doctors assured her she was suffering from gout or an allergy.
On February 6th - the night before Louise was born - Miss Waite again went to hospital with pains throughout her body.
At 10pm doctors confirmed she was three months pregnant - in fact she was nine months pregnant - and Louise arrived four and a half hours later at 2.30am.
Miss Waite said:"I was really shocked. I don't think Wayne could believe it was happening.
"We hardly had time to think about it. No one believed us when we told them we suddenly had a child."
The hospital, run by NHS Devon, have not been available for comment.

The baby weighed 8lbs 14oz, this is no little baby, my eldest son was the exact same weight and I was huge. She must of known or if not she must have wondered why she was getting so big!

I second Olive.

I read a case of a nigerian heavy weight teenager. She never thought that she was pregnat until she delievered it one fine morning. But the outcome was scary as the girl stabbed the infant to death. (happned 2 yrs ago likely, made headlines thru'out the US)

Everything's gonna be alright!!!

What observation!!!

The competency of the doc has to be appreciated.

Imagine the same scenario in Hamad, everyone would be having a field day, especially QLers.

Yes Chocolate, it's rare for it to happen but it does. As I said my mothers friend was pregnant and didn't know it. She didn't gain much weight as she's always been very physically active and she spotted lightly during the pregnancy so she thought she was just getting light periods.

Well they only show her face FS, but it looks like she's a hefty lass to begin with. My guess is she didn't put on any noticeable weight.

Actually as I stated above, it's not impossible at all. And if they were doing an ultrasound for IBS they were doing it over her stomach and intestine, not uterus, so it's entirely possible they missed it.

impossible. how she wont know thats she is pregnant, where if it is on 6-9 months her baby is moving around on her stomach and sometimes kicking. maybe she's hiding also her pregnancy

but what happened to the ultrasound test, a series of tests if ever she had those? I'm sorry, it maybe true but,I won't buy it. Unless the pregnant woman was not is her good mental state during her pregnancy, but I still doubt it. And it happened in UK?

Its really unbelievable..Its very surprising coz women's body structure starts changing after 4month and by the time the D-DAY come, anyone can make out that the particular woman is pregnant..Its really a dumb act played by the doctors and the lady, i would say...Thank god, the baby born safely..

"never seemed to have crossed their minds.." -- some doctor that is! she sensed some movement and it still didn't cross their minds? maybe they thought it was just the stomach or the liver or the pancreas shifting to another direction.. :P

haven't they even heard of an ultrasound? :P

It's actually fairly common for some women to gain very little weight, or if they are heavy to begin with, not notice an increase in weight. Also it's common for women to "spot" during pregnancy, and many take that as a normal period. It happened to a friend of my mothers, she thought she was having cramps and instead had a baby.

SERIOUSLY? 9 months and it never occurred to either woman or doctor that she is pregnant? How do you miss symptoms of pregnancy?
