She died after suffering so much that if one has to think about it deeply...seems to be the crime of the century.

May her soul rest in peace. And may the people of India wake up.

As feared and discussed before, it's all happening now. Not all acussed will get the maximum sentence. They might get away with lighter punishment.

I think the best solution to this problem is to empower women by providing them licenses for firearms. Let them carry guns and shoot the potential rapists.

Very sad. May her soul rest in peace. Very tragic loss of an educated and capable young life.

Her ordeal is finally over but her family and friends esp the boyfriend she was due to get married to early next year, are scarred for life. Their suffering continues. May God grant them strength in this difficult times.

UKEQ said, "This is a wake call for India and the wide world to take Women safety seriously." - yes, was watching the news reports / commentators on Al Jazeera and this problem / struggle to make a positive change has apparently been ongoing for years and the mindset is unfortunately ingrained and difficult to change. Something as shocking as this has brought it to world attention, hopefully, it doesn't peter out after the hype is gone. People's memories can be short but not in the lives of those affected, not just by this case but others as well. Hope that this is a watershed case where things can change for the better, for the sake of women's safety.

In a society where women and girls are treated as possessions and unwanted ones at that, is it a surprise men feel it is ok to treat women like this. When you throw in the fact that at the last elections parties fielding 27 candidates charged with rape and there are 6 state legislators that have rape charges against them it seems endemic in the country. However in some countries, especially the ones near India it is worse, rape is hidden inside marriage and lasts a lifetime.

Ur right Brit but what I want is the justice for all. After they done with the Amanath case they should form a team or something to find the culprits who are still enjoying the royalty. There are thousands of cases still in the dusty papers in court libraries.. Solving a case just cuz of people and media are demanding it and prolonging others who are waiting from months and years seems like a political business for me.

Why is it actually?

One died and shook the whole India because of media interference. Now you can see the so called popular men and women are tweeting about it. What do you think? Is it because they feel sorry for the victim or they want publicity by sympathetic tweets? Decade ago thousands were raped in the same India but was not much like how it is today. Do you think still humanity lives inside these beings or it is just again a lucrative business for them?

In this case, the crime is so severe that no punishment would ever be tantamount to justice. No matter what you do to the rapists, it will not bring back the smiles on the girls face back, it will not bring her honor back, it will not bring her life back.

However, to ensure that no one ever even think of such a heinous crime, the punishment to these devils must be exemplary. Many people would suggest death sentence. I would suggest that the sentence must be dropped upon their life in front of everyone. They should be hanged, or put before a firing squad, and this should happen in public.

It is hard to believe a crime like this happened in the 21st century.

tahsinmim - IMO death penalty iss too light a punishment. There is an ongoing debate in India regarding Chemical Castration for such heinous crimes. I believe there are scholars who are debating this with the people who matter and as a general rule, should be applied for all Rape cases.

Instances of severe abuse leading to death, like in this case, must include chemical castration and hanging both.

By Segmund• 29 Dec 2012 11:12

The callousness of the people who think there is no point discussing the matter is astounding. I wonder what they would say to it if their own sister, daughter or wife had been so mightily abused.

The poor girl died a very undeserved death.

Consider this - The woman and a male friend were traveling in a public bus after watching a film on the evening of Dec. 16 when they were attacked by six men who took turns raping her. They also beat the couple and inserted an iron rod into her body resulting in severe organ damage. Both of them were then stripped and thrown off the bus, according to police.

Rapes occur everywhere. Since this rape happened on a bus, we can assume that those concerned are not really "well connected"

What has horrified people is the severity and brutality of the rape and the violence that accompanied it.

Let us hope and pray that thisincident acts as a wake up call to the politicians and police and that the criminals are brought to justice.

To be honest, I would like to hand over the rapists to a mob and let them deal with them..

By BlueBull• 29 Dec 2012 10:14

In my opinion - Ggangrapes and all other crimes are a direct result of failure of the law enforcement of any country. In India, the women and the weaker sections of society are left to fend for themselves. Local goons and criminals run amock in the streets and no one can do anything about them.

Most of the cases of voilence are triggered by well connected people who can get away with anything and the police and the judiciary act like cheap whores.

http://worldnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/28/16212322-india-gang-rape-victim-dies-in-hospital-case-focused-attention-on-sexual-violence?lite

This case has lead to a large number of victims coming out in the open and talking about it. India has a culture of perversion and the lack of strict policing ensures that the victims remain muffled all their lives. Most of the times, the crime goes un recorded due to the callous attitude of the police and specially if the culprit is well connected.

I have always maintained that Democracy has done more harm to India than anything else.

I hope this shocking crime leads to India Gate becoming the Tahrir Square of India.

As if raping her was not enough, they had tortured her physically to such an extent that the doctors had to get her intestines removed because of which she could not have been able to eat food normally throughout her life.
