Dear Mr. Moderator,

There has been several posts by threadstarter who personally attacks other members and influence others to agree with him/her.

I am glad that you already made your move when you banned one post like the above.

It is quite alarming already for other newbies like me, that people here are like creating so-called 'gang' (just bcoz they knew each other already) and bully a person/QLer who didnt agree with these smart people.

Eventhough QL is a virtual site, yet we are staying in a small world in Doha. It is quite CRAZY AND SCARY if these QLers will continue to act like that.

We do know that you are quite busy as well in your daily task. So i hope some people like me will be willing to help you and report to you these kind of posts, to make QatarLiving continue to be a better and helpful virtual place to share things, opinions and experiences.

Please check this forum if you think it should be banned as well:

PM..

So the problem was in 'creating the topic'. If I did like Gypsy and copy/pasted the topic that would be fine I guess!

Good to know.. Next time I wish to offend someone I'll make sure I say it was a copy/paste stuff!

Well maza they still no who the father is. Same as when an Indian is working in the middle east for 4 years and his brother takes care of his wife.......

This is the statistic you need to concentrate on:

"Among British-born mothers the proportion of babies born out of wedlock is likely to be above the landmark 50 per cent already, as immigrants are more likely to have children within marriage."

By the way I wasn't sterotyping..just stating a reality of the society in the west....not the cultural backgrounds of its inhabitants...

The point is that such a trend is a disaster...

eerrr, the 'West' is made up of thousands of different cultures and religions! how can one possibly stereotype?? Ridiculous!!

Exiledsaint...

Over 50% of british children are now born out of wedlock:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/5056489/Nearly-half-of-children-born-out-of-wedlock-official-figures-show.html

Technically that is a lot of bastards (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bastard)..in the UK!

As you wish PM.

Us westerners are fair game, but the paternity stuff was lame. However I suppose when you marry your sister its easier to know who your kids father is.....

You know you have been in the US too long when the first time your employer provided you with free health insurance was when you moved to Qatar -- and your employer is Qatari :-)

was mean or offensive. Come on, try! Just ONE! Then I'll take it to every Arab I meet tomorrow and find out if they find it offensive.

There are ways you could make a funny one about the US. Mandi just gave 2. here is another one:

You know you have been in the US too long when the immigration line at the airport for citizens is longer than the one for visitors.

You know you have been in the US too long when you get in the line for visitors at immigration because the other line appears to be full of Latinos, Europeans, Africans and Asians and no one is speaking English.

And btw, I suggest you lay off the "threats" of a "fierce counterattack" -- especially when there is nothing to "attack over".

The idea of posting a joke about MEerns by a westerner is mean-spirited and provocative.. Next time avoid such jokes or expect a fierce counter attack.

Yeah, I was disappointed with the "You know you've been in the West too long ..." It just wasn't at all funny, it's mean-spirited. So I came up with a few of my own. You know you've been in the West too long when you call a business and are shocked to hear a real person answer the phone. You know you've been in the West too long when you get a pay raise at work and worry that it will put you into a higher tax bracket. Sorry, that's all I can think of for now, but I'm sure there are thousands more.

I read it several times and even read it to 2 Qatari friends of mine. They thought it funny too, especially about eating/food/meals, driving, the weather and language (B/P and "insha'Allah"). In fact, I think I remember you bragging about your husband's luxury cars.

What exactly did you find mean-spirited in that post, QL?

Actually, I didn't find anything offensive in the post about being in the ME for too long. And neither did I find Qatari Lady's description of Western life funny.

Why does everything seem so insolent to you, Qatari Lady. These are for just a few laughs, and these don't exactly mock your culture or religion. It mocks all other aspects of lifestyle, other than the very sensitive culture and religion; I believe it's something every one can digest!

Don't you think that a MEern would feel and think exactly the same about a thread westerners find 'funny'?

By anonymous• 27 Sep 2009 22:15

From what I saw there was nothing mean-spirited in the post about being in the Middle East too long. In fact, it was mostly about things that we find familiar and comforting.

Your remarks about paternity tests and biological fathers just feed a very nasty (and inaccurate stereotype. But none of this surprises me coming from you, frankly.

With pleasure..

You've been in the west too long if:

- When a waiter brings the bill to your table, you take out a calculator to calculate your exact share of it.

- You call a friend to remind him of the 10 riyals that you paid for him at a grocery store. (.. and you'll add the cost of this call to what he owes you.)

- You're surprised that you cannot find an Arabic translation for the term 'biological father'.

- You expect your 21 year old daughter to pay you rental if she lives under your roof.

- You think your local friend was kidding when he threatened to kill you after you'd asked him to introduce you to his sister.

- You mention your dog's name when asked about your family members.

- You think it's perfectly normal if you yell at your mom if she doesn't show respect to your dog.

- You're shocked that your 70 year old dad wishes to live in your house instead of dying alone.

- You act cool when your wife says to your mom: "Shut up and get out of my house!"

- You expect to get away with a crime pleading 'temporary insanity'.

- You fill a bottle with water when you need to use public toilets.

- You think you need a paternity test when a stranger asks you casually if the child you're holding is your son.

I completely agree with ako_po_si. I have been here for some time and I see some people bullying others by acting like gangsters with support of each other.

I just observed Twinkle.Twinkle is no longer on QL. I have read her threads and surprised to see all those who have attacked the lady with rude and obscene remarks are not banned, but she is. Drywood's case is very similar though I have not read all her threads.

Some people used obscene language on threads. For instance:

I think the MOD who decided to delete my thread was a westerner who didn't like the facts that I posted, while 'tolerating' the crap that Gypsy brought with all the 'sense of humor' that was involved.

My question to that MOD and to everyone else who found my thread to have been insulting:

Why does your sense of humor stop to function when your 'noble civilisation' is in focus?!

I suppose you have to be bold and stand up on what you post. Some post are presented out of frustration and bully rather than be given some little bits of brains. And the challenge is there by playing with facts and substances. You won't lose to these gangs if you are real.
