Dances With Wolves

Tonight I stayed up to watch a movie although I have work early in the morning tomorrow and although I am watvhing it for the 4th time. Its called dances with the wolves. I am sure many of you in this blog have watched this movie and it has captured your hearts for its beautiful sceneries and heart warming moments looking at two different set of people and cultures  learning from one another.

I am very fond of this movie as it dwells in a subject which is of interest to me. It is called the art of diplomacy. This movie is a testament to what many of us in this world lack and a point many countires today repeatedly miss. Its the simple step of how patience / tolerance and the willingness to understand the other brings people from two different backgrounds (no matter how horrible their past was) together towards a lasting relationship. Kevin costner who played the role of the soldier at the border post who is always trying to understand the indians and the indian (who is called "kicking bird") was always patient and tolerant no matter what the other indians said.

If only the world could learn such simple lessonS and take such simple steps.....

Then the world would be one beautiful place to live in.

Hmmmm......if thats the case i guess i have jumped the gun on my opinion of natives in your country. Well, in Malaysia.....i have never heard of a native being in college or university.....at least the ones where I studied.

I guess i have to make a phone call to president Hugo Chavez......to give them a lesson on peoples freedom...:)

Gas sniffers GIASI. They have to pay taxes on alcohol like the rest of us saps.

not to mention that the majority are alcoholics. The governments prefer them that way.

That and we are trying to get them to self govern. Unfortunatly its just not working. 200 years of sitting on their asses has made them pretty lazy. And given their allowances and tax free stuff, most of them never leave the reserve, those who do are usually outcasted by the tribe for trying to make something of themselves.

The natives in my country are given full university tuition. The only problem is that if they leave the reserve they no longer get tax free gas and cigarettes and food and such, because it would be too hard to control.

Well dohagirl........just like in your country be it america or canada and in my country Malaysia....the natives are marginalized people. Although they are given full benefits by the government using tax payers money,it is only to make sure they remain where they are. They are not given the opportunity to gain education similar to ours.......and i think its because we are afraid that they may realize their rigths which is to live normally like any one of us anywhere in the country.

I mean it's possible the money was going to a worthwhile cause, I know there are differences in how the natives in the US are treated and the natives in Canada. But in Canada there is no need for a native charity, since everything is supplied for them by the government. They don't pay taxes, or tuition. Also they are given a monthly payment...so long as they stay on the reserve.

Yup, they have reservations but the upkeep of them is paid for with tax money, not donations.

Amaren DG meant the native american indians.

They gave them reservations (like the wildlife in Africa) and casinos.

Interesting. Sounds like a scam to me, considering they don't actually have any land.

Can not remember exactly what as it was a mong time ago but i think it was along the lines of trying to preserve some of their land!
