Construction in the middle of the night?
For the last 3 weeks we've had a new apartment building being built next to our flat's bedroom window.
That would normally be fine, but they START at 11:30 PM and go ALL NIGHT, leaving sometime between 5am and 6pm.
As I write this there is a line of big trucks and a bulldozer running on our street.
I don't suppose there is anything I can do about this?
I know... it's Qatar...
OMG, VW, you are not the only one who has to put up with building work and terrible drilling noises, the whole of Doha's population is going stir crazy just like you.
No noise laws that I'm aware of, and even if noise-laws were in place, you know how lunatic they are here, nobody knows the laws.
IF it makes you feel any better, know that eventually you will get used to the noise and sleep thru it. You get to the point you don't even notice it.
OK this is crazy.
They're working two shifts now:
8pm-midnight
and
5am!! to 10am.
The building has risen just enough to be exactly parallel with our bedroom's window AC (which lets sound in) and they run their damn table saw and hammering the whole time.
Can anyone let me know if there are noise bylaws? It's cooled off now so they can work standard hours 8-5 by my estimate.
At least they should not work past 10pm or before 8am.
Please comment, going crazy here!
Maybe they are trying to build something secret underground! ;o
You should spy on them and once its complete you can go exploring! ;D
Try some ear plugs.
Keep dreaming VW, rental prices here are never going to go down. :(
Thanks all.
Of course from a compassionate standpoint, I don't want these guys working in the middle of the heat of day, but I'm only slightly less inclined to sacrifice my sleep ;oP
I'm glad to hear this is a summer phenomenon here (and yes, it's residential construction, not commercial like Ramada which I can understand they go 24/7).
So I must resign myself to the fact that due to my own bad luck with timing, they have chosen this summer to build instead of next winter, when they would not work all night (too cold? ;oP)
It's just another thing that our agency conveniently didn't tell us about as they tried to get us to sign for 2 years (heck no).
They can all keep building for all I care because it will help bring rental pricing down.
I have the same proble. Returned from holiday to find they are demolishing a building nearby.... this site seems to work 24 hours, though....
So I was going to ask the same question - are there ANY noise/work restriction laws for residential areas?????
ETA: This project is definitely not for the Asian Games...
I had someone building a house next to mine last summer n as u said, they do all their work only at nite. Talked to some ppl n the answer was, we either stop building or let the poor guys work at nite. So I just closed my mouth n depended on the AC hiding the noise :( U may go to the police department or Municipality to complain but why the hassle as we have only 2 months till all back to normal, I hope :)
With the trend to protect workers from the heat of summer I think we'll see more of this after the Asian Games are over and the rush to get projects finished before the launch of the games.
Be thankful that it is summer and the A/C can drown out some of the noise.
The construction at Ramada has been going on 24/7 for several months now. Imagine what that's like.
