Company to offer breakdown help

I often wondered why there was no properly organised breakdown company in Doha, or if there was one why I'd never heard of it! Well now there is. How many of you are likely to sign-up for it?

A NEW company offering roadside emergency breakdown assistance to motorists is being launched today.

By the end of October, Raha Auto Assistance (Raha) will hit the roads with 27 fully-equipped patrol vehicles offering 24-hour on-the-spot repair and recovery service, officials said yesterday.

The service is available to members.

According to the company, its call centre will register calls for breakdown or accident assistance. “A fully-equipped mobile patrol will be sent to provide assistance,” general manager Ikram Hamdad said.

The membership includes round-the-clock emergency assistance with patrols carrying spare parts and specialist equipment to do repairs at the spot, said Dr Khaled bin Jabor al-Thani, vice-chairman and MD of Qatar Technical Inspection Company.

Raha is the first roadside assistance service of its type in Qatar and with an introductory membership of QR600 a year.

A website, rahaauto.com, has also been created to allow customers to request services and seek advice online.

“All Raha patrols are fully trained to respond to members’ needs. Our mission is to provide a safer, quality motoring experience,” she said.

Raha membership is available for all cars registered in Qatar under 10 years old with a maximum weight of 3,500kg. The membership covers each vehicle.

“Our patrols aim to repair seven out of every 10 vehicles at the roadside. In the unlikely event of a car not being repaired safely within a reasonable time, the vehicle and passengers will be transported to any destination in Qatar,” Raha director Chris Clibbery said.

Officials said the service was available across the country. The service would reach a member “within a maximum of 45 minutes”, they added.

The membership is transferrable to a new vehicle. Non-members could obtain the service but there would be a surcharge of QR300, the officials said.

Majority-owned by Qatar Technical Inspection Company (QTIC), Raha’s shareholding partners are Nasser Bin Khaled al-Thani Holdings and Saleh Al Hamad Al Mana Company.

Hats off to Raha!

I joined a few weeks back as my car is now 8 years old and starting to get little things going wrong.

On Friday I drove home from camping at Fuwairat and stopped at the golf club for a bite to eat. I tried to start the car again and it was dead as a dodo. The technician came out, determined the problem was a duff battery and drove into town ... ON A FRIDAY ... found a battery, came back and fitted it using all the correct tools and test instruments. I was well impressed. His name was Arial. Hope he gets paid well for a great job done :o)

their advert, the one that's in the underground car park at landmark, always makes me smile

it shows a smiling Arab family, happy that their car has been fixed by raha breakdown services, completely unaware that their failure to wear seat-belts will lead to their untimely demise

it's a sad tale, but at least they died with fresh tyres

Was that the infamous 'tiddly-wink tsunami incident' of 1967, when a hundred competitors went off prematurely?

I feel your pain, as I myself lost an eye in the incident even though I was just a foetus at the time - such was the ferocity of those over-eager tiddly-winkers!!!

I shall give the service a go but I don't expect much.

In which part they say you were rude? Nowhere I say!

Maybe that guy just watched Shrek (3D edition) & was still wearing his 3D glasses when he logged-on to QL! They say wearing 3-D glasses for prolonged periods causes disorientation hehehehe!

Oh, brasukaexpat I think QTEL & Karwa is an excellent company. It's just some of the people who work there don't carry this excellence in their jobs.

Ah very clever normanila, editing your previous comments so my responses look silly! One of your comments definitely mentioned people in your "neighbourhood getting killed" and that I "should watch my words".

If your going to start deleting things you said previously then I can't really have a sensible discussion with you, so that's this conversation over. If I stooped to that level I could go back and remove the comment you took offence to, and then this conversation would look really silly!

Feel free to contact me if you need any news articles read for you :-p

Wow! Insults my country and my parents and now threatens to kill me. Yep, it's definitely me who's the rude one here!

Listen, here's how it is; You asked questions that you would easily have know the answers to had you bothered to read the article properly. Excuse me for making a little joke out of it, but at no point was I specifically rude towards you and as I already said, I still took the time to answer the questions for you.

If you can't take a little bit of mild joking around then I suggest you're a little more diligent before asking questions.

Don't worry El Zohiry, I can take it. My parents died in a freak tiddly-winks accident when I was only 3 and ever since then I've roamed the globe from country to country helping to teach people to read (kind of like the Littlest Hobo but on a bigger scale).

So insults directed at my country or my parents don't really work.

Please explain which part of my reply was rude. You asked questions, I provided the answers. I think that's pretty nice of me, don't you?

Trust me, if I was being rude, you'd know about it.

btw, my parents taught to me to make sure I'd fully read all the information provided before asking questions.

Well trained personal?LOL

Give me a break. It Will gonna be the same useless service we have anywhere across Doha.

Who gonna be the well trained guys? Guess Please!

Across Qatar?

If somebody need a service like this in the desert, they will go there with this car fully loaded with tools and get the people out?I doubt.

Another thing! Have you noticed that nothing here owned by The Royal Family Members have competitors? So my friends, as Qtel,Karwa taxi, and so on .I am sure that will be another frustating service.

That's it Folks

From the 2nd paragraph of the article; "27 fully-equipped patrol vehicles"

From the 3rd to last paragraph; "Officials said the service was available across the country."

how many patrol cars do they have considering

they will be servicing... is it the whole Qatar or in Doha only? If its outside the city limits like Al Gharria or Abu Samra, will they charge extra for that distance? Is it really within 45 minutes only that they can reach you in case of a break down? How about the monstrous traffic factor that they will encounter along, unless they are allowed to use lights and siren like ambulances do to pass along queque of cars and red light signals, hehe

I don't think QR600 is that expensive. I reckon if I ended up stranded on the side of the road I'd be wishing I'd paid it!

The article says the repair and recovery service is only available to members. In the UK if you're not a member of one of the breakdown services and you have to call out a garage to tow your car they charge you an absolute fortune.
