50 year mystery unraveled.

French bread spiked with LSD in CIA experiment
A 50-year mystery over the 'cursed bread' of Pont-Saint-Esprit, which left residents suffering hallucinations, has been solved after a writer discovered the US had spiked the bread with LSD as part of an experiment.

In 1951, a quiet, picturesque village in southern France was suddenly and mysteriously struck down with mass insanity and hallucinations. At least five people died, dozens were interned in asylums and hundreds afflicted.
For decades it was assumed that the local bread had been unwittingly poisoned with a psychedelic mould. Now, however, an American investigative journalist has uncovered evidence suggesting the CIA peppered local food with the hallucinogenic drug LSD as part of a mind control experiment at the height of the Cold War.

There has been a lot of experiments on human beings not only made by the CIA but also from any "Intelligence" Agengy in the world. Who wants to cast the first stone?

@ Khawaga,Apocalypse Now is a work of fiction BASED ON FACT,for something more realistic however,my uncle is a consultant @ the Vietnam war vet's hospital in Columbus,Ohio which i visited when i went to see him & i'm a medically qualified person myself, didn't need rocket science to figure out that A LOT of those old men had lost their marbles & it wasn't just from the violence they were part of it...& back then, there was no proper studies or research done on LSD anyways,in fact the CIA inadvertently contributed to that research with their experiments which of course if they admit to us,they'd have to kill us right?...*wink*!

IT is the same thing with all the sabotage operations that go on worldwide. Its easy to blame someone or the other and the gullible public will always believe it.

Bingo, hence another conspiracy theory which shall remain one.

i doubt if this news will ever be validated by either the french intelligence or the CIA....who'd want to smear mud on themselves?

I wouldn't put it past the French or the CIA. It was 1951, a very different time with very different mindsets.

Official documents? What part of French intelligence denying it don't you understand? It's just another conspiracy theory unless either the CIA or the French Intelligence admits to it - which will not happen.

"None of his sources would indicate whether the French secret services were aware of the alleged operation. According to US news reports, French intelligence chiefs have demanded the CIA explain itself following the book's revelations. French intelligence officially denies this. "

When official documents have a reference to the same, what more do you need?

There is nothing dubious about CIA.

For them friend or foe is the same when it comes to experimenting..

The newspaper also just makes claims, neither the French intelligence nor the CIA have validated it. Another one of those conspiracy theories.

I would like to see some actual citing of sources on this one. Of course the CIA experimented with LSD as a potential mind control device. No one argues that. But going all the way to France to do it? Dubious at best!

By the way, Apocalypse Now is a work of FICTION. Please stop believing everything you see in movies.

I don't want to read because we don't need any more evidence to see the cruelity and brutality of CIA and the government of US.

s_isale, try to go thru the spread of diseases in Africa (for instance : Ebola ,EBOV, which spread in Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan).

In every conspiracy,mass-murder, annihilation, coupe d'etat, you can find the hands of CIA.

There isn't a single recorded case of ANYONE having ever died from doing LSD,so don't know about the 5 dead, but yeah,it's a known fact that the CIA experimented with LSD,why go as far as France? just take a good look @ the vietnam war veterans...for a good % of them, their brains are mush,so to speak,'cos the US Govt. @ the time believed that LSD would make them fearless fighting machines(this was before any proper research was done on LSD,which would prove that LSD induced anything but violence of any sort)so their meals & drinks were spiked without their knowledge, anyone seen Apocalypse Now,ever wondered why everyone's so twisted in that movie?...
