chivalry - benevolent sexism?
If the age of chivalry is dead, it appears a group of feminists psychologists are trying to ensure it is never revived, concluding that a man who helps his wife with her heavy shopping is actually guilty of "benevolent sexism".
The researchers created a list of such damaging acts as: helping a woman to choose the right computer, calling a group of both men and women "guys" and offering to do the driving on a long distance journey.
Even men who think they are expressing affection might be guilty - the scientists said calling a woman a "chick", showering her with unwanted affection or saying that you cannot live without her could also be sexist.

God knows what they will come up with next.
now even greeting each other will become taboo
I like a man being a man and I like being treated like a lady/girl/woman.
If a man offers up his seat - if you want/need it - nothing wrong with taking it at all.
On the other hand I will offer my seat up to a man who I think needs/wants it more then me.
I offer the same kindness and respect to a woman as I do a man - it is called 'basic good manners'.
There should be no difference.
Well damned if you do, damned if you don't. Either I will get a dirty look and hear "Chivalry is dead" or I will hear "I am a sexist"..
I think I will kill chivalry.
psychology of women..phew!! damn if you do, damn if you don't..
These women need to have a good shag....seem to be quite a few of those around lately..;)
Where is colt?????
Of course it's sexism, but what the people in OP's article need to understand that their are differences between the sexes, and noticing them and responding to those difference in a benevolent way is not a bad thing.
na........ kareena i dnt think so :p
But men in general all over.. I have heard similar complaints from many women who say that their husbands would never sit besides them while they drive. Men consider driving a very manly thing I guess..
Perhaps you're a crazy driver :o)
I do feel offended when men offer to drive because the consider it below their self esteem so sit next to a woman while she is driving. I don't why but most men would hate to be seen sitting on the passenger seat while the woman is drivig.. Be honest guys.. Isn't it true?
As per their blurb, their group :
"promotes feminist research, theories, education, and practice toward understanding and improving the lives of girls and women in all their diversities..."
So, I would disagree when you say they do not undertand feminism.
bulk of rubbish
There can be fine lines between actual sexism and chivalry or just trying to be kind..
I recall an incident a few years ago on the Tube in London. I offered my seat to a lady and she accused me of being sexist by saying -"You wouldn't do it If I was a man"
Lesson learnt!
Saying "I love you" is also sexist!!!!
No waaaay! I think its these so called feminists psychologists who need to be restrained and not the well intending "guys".
I can assure you this chick(me) definitely expects my husband to jolly well carry my heavy shopping, or even the light ones for that matter!
Oh and IMO any man who says he "cant live without" his partner maybe unbelievable and corny but never a "sexist"
Some people have too much time on their hands to come up with such conclusions!
what happens is they get the maximum coverage and slowly it creeps into the mindset.
