Well I think that part of what happened is that Charan was joking around but, as often happens with text, much of the meaning was lost so instead of coming off as funny, it was offensive to some. I'm sure everyone has done it on occasion. Without seeing facial expressions and hearing tone of voice - something meant to be just silly comes off as rude.

I haven't met Charan yet at any of the QLSG outings that I have attended but everyone speaks very highly of him so I hope that I get the chance and I do hope he gets another chance to come back online in QL. With that said, I have noticed that he has been on a real rampage this week with his posts and I have chosen to stay out of it. But a couple times people (some who were friends of his) pointed out they found it offensive and requested he stop - he didn't. His choice, of course. But actions bring consequences. As for me - I like a joke as much as the next person but there is a difference between being funny and being funny at someone else's expense. I think that it is important to treat others how we ourselves want to be treated.
Just my 2 cents and no offense intended. And I'm sure Charan will set everything right with those he may have inadvertently offended with his off beat humor.

I agree QL needs certain types of people to keep it alive, and I generally do take what he says with a pinch of salt, but some of his comments are in bad taste and I find them offensive. I don't see how meeting him in real life would change my reaction to these types of comments.

I expect QL admin only consider how a user behaves on this site when they ban someone. It would be too much work to get character references for everyone first!

I'm all for silly comments and humour and sarcasm (indeed I try to employ these tactics from time to time but with little success), and granted, charan does have his funny moments, but every now and then he pushes it too far and steps into the realm of being insulting, rude and degrading.
There are other people on QL who pull off humour and sarcasm with great affect but never resort to unsavory comments. These people I have far more respect for, and the fact that some of them are friends with charan in real life makes me think that he probably is an alright bloke, but as I said before I only have his online persona to go buy.
But those of us who haven't met him in person only have his online persona to judge him by. If online he comes across as obnoxious (among other things) then we can't excuse that just because someone else says that he's alright in real life.
