the Census

The other day, one guy from Census came to our house to survey. He asked few questions like, no.of occupants in the house, how many rooms, source of income & the total income of our household. I deligently answered all queries and then he made a nice remark."I LIKE FILPINOS,MOST HOUSE I INTERVIEWED WITH FILIPINOS WELCOME ME...YOU FILIPINOS ARE NO.1" (he probably meant we're cooperative).

Well, that was a nice thing to hear. But we pinoys, we've been used of surveys back home (even to the details of what toothpaste brand we're using..hehehe!). But I'm glad that he found us filipinos accommodating.

I remember last year, the surveyor was slammed by my neighbor's door....poor guy:(

And for pinoys, no need to explain why there are such surveys, right?

don't be that rude...i meant to post this on a 'brighter side' of view. Of course, we know our 'right of privacy'....that's why I said....'use your common sense'.

nicaq25 - He'd get the "slam door on face" treatment from me too. Unless, it was a pre-announced government census.

"I LIKE FILPINOS,MOST HOUSE I INTERVIEWED WITH FILIPINOS WELCOME ME...YOU FILIPINOS ARE NO.1" (he probably meant we're cooperative).

or, probably he meant they have the least awareness regarding their rights to privacy.

So this is the reason for the sticker on our gate.

You are right nicaq25 we are so used to census and surveys back home. And yes usually a public announcement - through media and/or community leaders - is made before the census is actually done. The duration of the census is also announced.

Maybe they announced it on Arabic media and the English language media did not ? Just a thought.

hmm..how does it work?...but anyway....it's true to our country too....public announcement of census must be made for people to be aware.

Spiritual Census  Unless you are in need of a serious spiritual census, then I will open "My Confession Booth". My Confession Booth is close due to road renovations, Doha style.

I worked part time in the last US Government Census, We had a big ID badge to carry visible all the time for security purposes. Our own private cars had a 3x3 label in both sides of our car doors identifying us as workers for the US census, including our  polo shirts and baseball caps  had embroider-labels indicating the US census. Including a photocopy of information about the US census purposes register with the county.  If someone is going to knock in my door and not able too represent themselves with a Proper ID SEAL AND STAMP and their is no announcement to the public, they are for a rude awakening and a few word, like a was one bad mouth sailor, I would care less,  If it was a smiling Pinoy or mohammed himself.  That is just my opinion...    My Confession Booth is close due to road renovations, Doha style.

I know as women, we have  mixed feelings if we let the strangers in to our house, but the guy from census I referred to was only contented of making his interview just at my doorstep. And aside showing me his ID, he also posted sticker on the front entrance of our building. (probably for housing/zoning purposes).

well nadt, it's not being a paranoid, that's a normal reaction especially meeting strangers at your home. And we should also be careful of who we welcome to our house.

Yes, alexa, we should use our common sense. If we sense something fishy, think quickly!

.... kept apologising for disturbing me ..... you should have seen his face when I told him the house next door were Sudanese .... poor guy turned positively ashen

Apart from that, we've been in the same house for coming up to 5 years, and have never locked the front door. Maybe I should change that?

All things being equal, fat people use more soap

yap i agree.

we filipino value other people. we smile and talk to people very nicely.

and that is the charm why we filipinos earn so many friends even indian, lebanese, qatari, or etc etc.

anyway, on census thing, err.. no one came to us to ask us..haha.

Is this the norm here. I would be worried if a guy came to my house asking all these questions..you dont know who to trust these day..nicaq, i would probably be like your neighbour..not being rude but i just dont trust people knocking on my door whom i dont know or not expecting..
