Carrefour quality

I have noticed that the Carrefour quality has dropped over the years. It used to be a nice hypermarket with lots of choices and good quality items. Recently I went there to have salad dressing and all they have only two brands in the rack. Even the local convenient shops keep more verities. Mostly they keep only Carrefour brands and customers have no choice at all. They should stop calling it Hypermarket. I have noticed this started happening in last one year and earlier it used to be nice shopping.

i think Romanci means  Suq- Masskar it's in North of Maither  erea exactly  next to Al-furqan studies center i never been able to check out the place cuz  the place is mainly filled with locals the secuirty folks down there don't allow single  men to shop there  so that the local folks have some sense of more  like-home feeling and more privacy which is not wrong  well given that its' their own country.....! anyway if ur a married couple or a woman then u shouldn't have any trouble gettin  thru the secuirty check points!

Please do let me know as soon as you do,and thanks again. I suppose this is the "women's only" mall people were discussing many months back. Just didn't know it was this good since no one really said anything about the quality of the place, so appreciate the review.

Sounds Godsent! Since of late shopping for groceries has become quite tiresome what with many products either being unavailable or due to go off shortly. Will deffo try out "Saudi Mall"(I think I'll call it that too..lol) this weekend,Inshallah. xox

Fathimah, there is a  small mall far behind Villaggio, can't remember the name...I call it the Saudi mall, because everybody there is covered like in Saudi, and all the shops there are in malls in Saudi, plus men alone are NEVER allowed in there.Anyway, the supermarket in there is AWESOME! They have the best bread, and the rest is good too...very clean, never busy, FAB!The only thing bad is the meat...it is from Sudan/Pakistan etc....but other than that, I can recommend it! Will try to find out the name.

Carrefour and quality? No way. It has got to be one of the most understocked/over priced supermarkets around here! Lulu's is by far better. MM is ok too but since of late stocks far too many products due to expire shortly.Spinneys turned out to be a real disapointment. After all the rave reviews about the one in Dubai, I was awaiting it for so long but for nothing!

Sorry, don't agree. For me it's all the same crap..only difference is if one catches the fruit and veg the moment they arrive...then one might get something somewhat fresh.

LOL at azamat's last statement!  Sorry dude, but the innuendo was too much for me   :)Agree about the handling of produce generally here but family food and Lulu are better than some.

the best salad dressing is taylors, and it can be found in the best supermarket for food in doha - family food centre. while you're there, try the tandori chicken and everything else from the delicatessen.carrefour is horrible at how it stocks it's fruits and veggies. the stocking staff throw stuff around bruising spoiling most of it. my girlfriend was furious at how the staff rough handled her mangos.

Totally agree with nomerci.  Every franchise store here is a watered down poor imitation of the original--restaurants, supermarket, clothing stores, etc. etc. etc.  The problem isn't the brand it is the managers and sales staff.  I was in Mothercare the other day and the sales staff decided to select their own music, which consisted of techno dance music with obscene lyrics in English.  Clearly neither the managers nor the sales staff are being properly trained. I agree.  Carrefour is horrible here.  It's not great in Europe but it is much better than here by comparison.  It's France's equivalent of ASDA, so it's nothing special.  The produce for one is better quality generally and the staff and management seem to have a vague clue.  In a way I would love to see a Waitrose or a proper M&S food hall but the brands will get massacred here.

It does not matter which supermarket chain will open stores here in Qatar. As they will hire the usual staff, and there goes customer service, quality of perishable goods (due to poor storage and handling) etc.It is and will stay what it is. Even at Spinneys, although the staff is very friendly, they have no idea about their products    (except some of the Lebanese managers), and more often that not, some of their products are mouldy, fruit is rotting etc. Just like any other store in Qatar.

TB - and Waitrose stuff too at the deli counter - but it is a little and very random as you say. We just need the supermarket here asap and not just some washed out franchise version of it!!

I actually feel sorry for people here who think that the likes of spinneys, MM, c4, lulu's, family food etc are classified as good supermarkets. Let me assure you out there - they are not compared to those in the UK (except kwiksave which was awful but went bust because it was so bad).

Megamart have Tesco stuff on their shelves as well. Weird items, totally random like yeast extract. I can only assume they are buying surplice stock that still has some shelf life left.

I will be happy when Tesco finally make it to Doha. Hang on... Doesn't Qatar own most of Sainsbury's? When are we going to see a Sainsbury's open here in Qatar?

Wow.....!!!!!  so there is a lebanese mafia too.  Yesterday we were discussing the SL mafia who try to fill the company with their men top to bottom.Going by the above posts,  I doubt the guys out there at C4 have any idea of customer relationship or even if they have they think and imagine  themselves as more superior then the others working  with  them and are most probably working at their own pleasure and not for the companys benefit.

khokhoy - I vaguely see your point but what you don't expect when you buy something is for it to have defects to the point of not being useable at all or for it to break within days  of puchase (for non perishables).

wish one of the supermarkets in the UK would get a local sponsor and set up shop here - big sigh. Even ASDA (which I used to hate in the UK due to its Wallmart connection and the fact I thought it was just plain naff) is preferable to anything in Qatar...

I had been to City Center Carrefour yesterday morning and I found that the person resposible for the price tagging for fruits was chatting with salesman and so many customers were roaming around to ask the prices for fruits.Even I roamed around for 5-6 minutes to ask the prices of cherries.Than the person came and told me that big box is for 10 rials and smaller one too for 10 riyals.Totaal confused I kept back the box and left....The salesman have no interest in selling at all..If u ask them for a thing they will start rolloing their eyes like they had a big fat pregnant bee in their eyes that very moment....

If you actually want quality then shop groceries and vegetables/fruit in Family Ffod Center on Airport Road. Carrefour and their Lebanese Mafia should ALL be kicked out of Qatar. Their customer service is poor, the non-local arab staff arrogant (so-called supervisors who will stand around chatting instead of doing their jobs) and do NOT buy their icecreams as they cannot even keep control of their freezer temperatures! Disgusting service!!!

F/Man

have to disagree there too, been to ones in Paris, other places in France and in Italy - slightly better than the ones here but not by much.

Could have been the branches that were to blame and there are better elsewhere but I have yet to find them! - Sorry F/Man, don't like to disagree.

Carrefour quality--now there is an oxymoron. The problem is not the chain, its the local franchises, which source most of their own stuff and buy the rights to sell it under the Carrefour name.  Carrefour is actually quite decent in Europe with acceptable-quality foods.

C4 is the worst supermarket here in Doha.

Albaker - I rarely rarely buy food from Carrefour, although overpriced and my heart sinks to pay it, I go to MM

so many times I have  bought non perishable items (chairs, luggage straps, recently a suitcase) to find they break within days of being used.

My advice to all, do not buy non perishables from Carrefour, it is such poor quality
