Can we help the labors of Al-Mukhtar Camp?
On the night of Nov. 10 there is was fire in Al-Mukhtar Labor Camp which is located on 38th street in the Industrial area. The camp was made of cheap wood and completed burned down to ashes within hours. Three laborers burnt to death, dozens of them got injured, and hundreds of them lost their hard earned belongings including cash. Please don’t advise them to put their money in banks as their status does not make it easy to open a bank account.
Bodies remained in HMC for days. No one put any serious effort to send them back home or provide them with proper funeral service here.
Majority of the labors are Sri Lankans. However both the embassy and the labors are discouraged to seek help from outside as it can bring problems to Al-Mukhar and to the country itself. Its not in the national interests :-)
No compensation is given to any of the deceased as they were not on Al-Mukhar’s sponsorship. It’s a shame of 21st century.
A tatal of QR 200 was given to the surviving labors to buy them slippers and cloths which they lost along with their other belongings. It’s a joke of 21st century.
Dear QL members: We had a long debate when some families were kicked out of their apartments; but on the subject of labor camp we don’t know what to do or it a simply because none of the QL member lives on the labor camp? Is it because we think they deserve this; or it just not part of our interests?
they were not flown home. they are recently buried in a muslim graveyard here in doha. no compensation of qr5000 is sent home. when i approach the company to contribute some money directly to the families, i was not able to as the sponsor is not interested to pursue this in such a way anymore. i was able to arrange my bit through some local guys from sirlanka.
lets contribute more than our old cloths. lets contribute what is dear to us.
they will be travelling by bus how will they bring inside the camp
may be these guys can distribute it to the rest
There are at least 300 needy souls
directly at the office i.e. if some of the people work at gypsy's office, give the donation to them, there in the office instead of going to the camp....
just a suggestion
Seemingly they closed the new camp even to the embassy informing that they would supply all the labourers with new things.
By the way I am collecting food too tins and rice - I will find a way to deliver but any donations will be gladly accepted. NO MONEY.
this is really a sad story and they need any help they can get,so why it is not allowed to help them?call me a fool but please can someone tell me the reasons why?

I have already eight bags of clothes and some food to only I was told that we can't give it to the labourers. All my office colleagues brought from home. I am willing to collect and even deliver but we need to be allowed into the camp first.
We already collected money from our office and contributed to them, some of them are working as cleaning boys in our office.
I would like to contribute clothes also. Canary if you get any information, please let me know I will give my clothes to you, as am leaving for vacation next week.
If there are any basics that are needed please state:
a)what
b) where to take it
One of the reason these people are so vunerable is because the inability of their own governments to provide a stable country.
Sri Lankans are lovely and they deserve so much better.
I have already collected clothes for those people but I was told that we can't enter the new camp which is now in Wakra.
I also heard that the three labourers who died were to be flown home with a compensation of QR 5000 for each labourer.
Please be so kind as to check you information and if you need anything I have you can PM if you care to.
