can I get anti-depressant prescription refilled in Qatar?

I read on justlanded.com that this is a banned medication in Qatar except in "extreme" instances. my instance in not extreme, thank goodness. LOL I'm an American taking this for years now. can state or private clinic general practitioners prescribe this? its not a narcotic nor habit-forming. I've been offered a job in Qatar for 12 months but don't want to get into trouble over this. any comments or help or pointers to websites with info is most welcome and appreciated! thank you!

Well I have taken some of BBK's anti depression advice. Not eating too many dates yet but have signed up for Arabic language lessons. Terramax has also signed up as has one or two other members of QL. Any more advice BBK?

In Qatar culture there are some people who are very very superstitious and base their lives on how to avoid witchcraft and magic spells that control people. I am very lucky to have two of these people who work with me, every morning in the shower i make up some story that i know will scare them to death and i come into work acting all serious and confused at times and when they come ask me whats wrong (which they cant resist but do) i tell them the story i made up about how our servant put a spell on my mom and how she levitated in the air and got a message from beyond the grave that if i ever had a kid he will be a serial killer and thats why i'm nto married now to avoid that tragedy from coming to Qatar!!

Guys i am not joking these people fell completly for it!! Its all about being serious when you tell the story and they already have the BS planted in their brain so all i'm doing is feeding their need to hear this rubbish.

Today i'm telling them that all kids born in 2007 have been cursed to become somehow involved in prostitution! And since one of these people just got married and is trying to have kids....this will be my anti-depressant today!!! I'm gonna have a chuckle!

I hope that you will not need such medication in Qatar.

Maybe you can learn new language & culture, learn about the religion of Islam, eat dates, reduce weight, ....

Excellent! The XR formula is my preferred instead of the other. You've been most helpful, not only in this but in making me feel welcome, too. This is my first time using a blog so please pardon if I post things awry or duplicate times; I don't know what I'm doing... how do you steer this thing? Where's the brake? Where is reverse gear? LOLOLOL Again, thank you and warm regards.

I take Effexor XR...it is sold over the counter for about QR99. As far as Trazedone, I think you can get it without a Rx too. For Xanax, I think Hamad is your best bet.

i just spoke to my private doctor, and according to her, all the medications is highly controlled drugs, you will have to go to the govt hospital that is hamad hospital to get the prescriptions filled. this is also for lithium drug.

going to hamad is no big deal, but getting an appt cud take time.

there are private hospitals too, but am not sure how they would go about it.

but you can get them here only under strict control.

let me see if i can find any info about private hospitals.it will a bit difficult, but lets try.

hello and thanks for the reply! I've got venlafaxine (generic for Effexor) and alprazolam (generic for Xanax) and Trazedone. its not as bad as it reads. LOL the last 2 are as needed only and usually live out a lonely shelf life when at last they reach their "freshest by" date and I toss them for new once a year. the other I didn't ask about is metoprolol, which is for blood pressure but I didn't anticipate a problem with that one. I'm so very grateful for your time to write. the job Qatar is going to be great for me but worried that I might have to turn it down over this situation. almost midnight for me and I'll sure sleep better tonight than last night! again, many thanks!

In a similar fashion I have been prescribed Lithium Carbonate in India which is sold there under brand name Licab. Do you guys see any hope on its availability in Qatar.

i think you can get a prescription by a private doctor too..shouldnt be a problem. yup do let us know what the med is, could check out at the pharmacy.

if its a controlled drug then u may need a prescription, and if u are getting them along with you, have a valid prescription with you while travelling.

no one may create any trouble, but doesnt harm being careful.
