I'm bored and can see just so many re-runs of comedies on TV and then they repeat the re-run every 2 hours...help!

yeah .. this is the only problem here the sound quality won't be perfect. If you like listening to music, then you can buy yourself a Creative Zen M Vision 60GB capacity.. it plays music, movies and got a lot of features ... the nice thing and that is why I prefer it rather than iPod ... you don't need to convert the .avi files like iPod and you can simply drop them there and play them later ... you can watch them on the Zen itself or connect it to TV and enjoy your movies :)

that's the biggest obstacle I have right now.. but I do know that area...

a store called SAQIR (i think). it's in one of the strip malls on the road that leads from Qatar Foundation/Education City to downtown. the place has a big purple sign, on your right if you are driving from downtown to QF. if i'm not mistaken, it's in same stip as the McDonalds/Burger King.

they don't have a huge selection, but they usually get the new ones.

they charge 10 a DVD, plus a deposit of 80 which you get back. best part is no late fees. standard is 3 day rental but if you get a few just tell them you'd like to keep them for 7 days.

the pleasure would be mine. Will have a look in the markets where can I find those DVD players and let you know about it. Will test the compatibility between those DVD players and Western Digital External Hard Disks there in the shop to make sure that it will not give you any trouble in the future.

Yeah at most I could burn 6 of 700 MB movies. Thats about it.

However, as Colt said earlier, I do resort to plugging in my Notebook to the LCD TV and watch them that way. But then again there goes your 5.1 surround out of the window as the output from the Notebook to the AV Receiver is just one Ipod jack! :(

you are right Rayyz it is really annoying to burn those DVDs ... jsut burn 5 or 6 every time on one DVD I guess that the 4.7GB can hold that much of movies ... all my DVDs got that number of movies ... :)

King, I might have to take you up on the offer of instruction...or take an extra course and hire you to go with me and buy that DVD you were talking about...so you CAN teach me how to use it...

Well we gave our shot with just one DVD player and one External HDD so there ended our research. But yes, I had a feeling it could be due to the problem as you very well mentioned above.

Am getting sick of burning movies onto DVD-RW's and watching them on the home theater :(

Need to buy a cheap chinese dvd player with usb input and a compatible External HDD ASAP!!!

Herne> you are welcome buddy, sure thing it can be installed on the laptop too, but do you have enough space there and a power socket next to you? This Hard Drive is like 500GB and got a power cord and needs electricity to work.

Rayyyz> I tried that in a friends house, she got the player and it could not read her 320GB Seagate, but it was able to read my 500GB Western Digital and play movies from there. It depends sometimes on your Hard Disk itself and that is the problem, .. mine works on her DVD player ,but maybe will not work on another one. The problem I guess is in the USB version itself, whether it is a 1.0 or a 2.0 connector, but it can be the firmware of the Hard Drive itself.

Would you know of any guaranteed DVD player with USB input that 'detects' an external HDD? I know a friend of mine, he got a chinese dvd player (I think its Zenan or something) and it just wont read from the external hdd. However, a usb flash disk can still be read.

Herne> You are also welcome ... the pleasure would be mine to share those with you.

Colt45> Yeah ... some of those come already with a USB connector that you can plug your External Hard Drive directly and play movies without the need to burn them to DVDs or play them from your computer.

Scarlett> Sure thing .. it is part of the service, everything is included and free of charges, installation, instructions and everything ... just let me know :)

if it supports DivX..you see, not only am I computer illiterate, I'm electronically challenged. lol And..without my better half to work those for me (heck sometimes I can't even figure out how to turn the dang things ON!) it can be a bit challenging..I do appreciate your offer though...Do you offer instruction courses in DVD????

I know one, I rent sometimes from there. It is called Al Nawras Video, it is on the road between Jeida Tower and Sofitel Hotel. If you are coming from Sofitel direction, it's no the right side, if from Jeida tower, it's on the left. :) And is iexactly on the middle. You have to leave 50 riyals deposit, and a dvd is 10 QR. They have lots of english, hindi and arabic films.

I'll just head to one of the malls and see what they have then...I never go into those sections of the stores...guess I best venture out further in my grocery store quests...lol Ahh to be an explorer...(oh my..somehow that sounds kinda sad, doesn't it??? oh well...)

good morning dear friend, how are you doing today? hope that you are doing fine. Are you looking for the device itself? As a DVD or a Video Player? See ... I got a solution .. why don't you buy a DVD player that support DivX format and I will lend you my External Hard Disk for a while? It has something between 250 - 300 movies and got a lot of Series just like LOST, Heroes , Scrubs and Seinfeld ... and 150 GB of music, what do you say? :D

Save the money that you will pay for the rent, buy a new DVD only and leave the rest to me ... would that be ok? Have a nice day ...

at the 2nd floor has a video shop where you can rent for QAR 10 each...but there's a deposit of 50 riyals per cd...

also in Lulu Hypermart...2nd floor inside the electronic shop/store. The video shop is at the far corner of the store; same rate applies too

but the traffic keeps changing the channel...but one can drive just so much..and the view out my computer room window is a bit dull until I see someone, usually a construction worker, walk by..or a VERY hot little bird that sits on my window sill with his beak wide open huffing for air...So...I think its time for a video...

And...GOOD MORNING!!!!!!

Really depends where you live. Some supermarkets like Q-mart at the mall, family food near the airport have rental places.

PS. Got you pm, already replied, thanx :)
