Bringing duty free booze through doha
Hello. I have asked my brother to buy me some decent gin from heathrow, he is flying on Qatar Airways via Doha (where I will be meeting him) and then we are both flying on to SGN. My brother will remain airside the whole time during his transit time.
The duty free guys at Heathrow are telling him that if he takes duty free from there, the authorities will take it off him at Doha. I'm sure I have taken booze through doha before. So is this true? Is it a new thing?
The Heathrow staff said that only people arriving at doha rather than transiting could buy booze. Which I know is bullshit because they take booze off you if you try and enter Qatar with it. So maybe they have all their facts mixed up.
Could do with a quick answer......
Cheers
@ Baldrick,it's not gin,it's a clear,alcoholic liquid labelled 'gin'!! *wink*!!
What's wrong with King Robert Gin? :P
... such as Tanqueray and Bombay Sapphire.
I would just buy from here to be safe... Some airports are also strict on booze being brought in which hasn't been sealed within their own airport and will just confiscate it... frustrating!
Buy the booze in Heathrow and bag it in the check-in luggage.
(then pray it doesn't break)!!
That's life and this is Qatar.
Motherhood...The hardest job you'll ever love! : )
But they don't sell Hendricks, Plymouth or Oxley gin at Doha :(
Heathrow airport staffs are right. It is the liquid regulation of all airports. If one is transiting then there are restrictions to what he could buy particularly liquids and it does not matter to which country he is transitting. It is best to buy the liquids at the point of transit, in your case, at duty free doha.
As far as I know you can transit with Duty Free alcohol without any problem.
It's only if you "arrive" in Qatar that Customs will confiscate the alcohol at the final X-Ray after hold baggage collection.
