BOB SIGNS IN REAR WINDOW??

Desertfly
By Desertfly

It's a common sight to see the "Baby on Board" signs displayed in the rear windows of vehicles. My question is what does it means, what is the message that people want to convey?
If they are trying to say that other road users should be careful because there is a child in the car, do they remove it when the child is NOT in the car? If not then they will be the cause of confusion in case of an accident, emergency service will be looking for child at the accident scene.

The annoying part for me is seeing cars with BOB signs and children in the car and the reckless and irresponsible driving of the parents - So the attitude is, Others watch out for me and my child but I can endanger my child and it is OK!

I fear that parents in Qatar does not really care for their children's safety

Never thought much about BOB signs. I try not to hit any car and avoid getting hit by any car on the road irrespective of the signs they put up..

I see one of these signs and think - "Wally! He/She should be told that most of us have kids and it's nothing to shout about"..

I'm sure some are also placed by scared mothers as a desperate measure to incite mercy from the speeders. And personally, I do believe in responsible driving but as Mike Shamrock said, we all are offenders and I drive recklessly sometimes and I am truly sorry for that. But the one thing that slows me right down is a car with that sign on it. I guess imagining a cute baby's face and the perilous environment it is in, brings out the human in me and hopefully others too:-)

You're absolutely right in this one. First of all, those signs are useless and secondly, every driver in this country is a potential offender, period.

To me it looks like a status symbol " Look i'm a proud parent and i have a baby in my car"....simply Show-Off.

Phoesnox got it spot on. It was to help the Emergency services.

Now It's a fad. I don't need to be told that you have a baby on board. Even worse are the "Princess on Board" ones ...

OK.. Rant over... :O)

This doesn't help here or applies here, even you have that sign BOB, Careless /stupid drivers doesn't care about it or even you drive carefully or drive moderately on a correct speed still there finger always active to flash there lights behind you or even not giving enough distance.

The original reason for these signs was that there were a numebr of accidents in the States and Europe where the parents were killed and/or severley injured and rescue services were not aware there was a baby in the car. hence if there is a sign in the car rescue services can look specifically for a baby which might be injured or unable to cry out. Very sensible really.

It means any landcrusiers will just bounce off the back of the car as the sign creates a forcefield around the vehicle.
