Blogging lands Indian lecturer in Dubai jail
An Indian university lecturer landed in police custody in Dubai after he blogged against a private university based in Dubai. The arrest took place a couple of weeks ago when the professor was visiting Dubai on a business visa. He has now been granted bail, but his passport has been confiscated and he cannot travel, confirmed officials. It is yet unclear what laws he has broken, though Dubai news agencies attributed police officials saying that he was wanted "for blogging in India against a private university based in Dubai".

Having lived in Dubai I have observed that it was next to impossible for an expat to win any case against a local or a local establishment. In this case, he did...and so I guess he became the target of the wrath of the opposition. They may have sued him on a false pretext which is presently unknown.
Blogging from India against an university cannot be a valid reason of his arrest in Dubai. There is definitely something more to this story that is not disclosed.
This is very sad, it shows a few people will influence will wield it in favour of personal grudges or mood swings.
most probably there's something more in this beyond the news, some wrong rubbing of shoulders kinda stuff...something personal grudges...!!

agree with brit, he (anyone perse) should have known ground realities...or if he wanted to vent, should have avoided coming again.
It's quite ironical really that things turned out the way they did, given that the courts had previously ruled in his favor against the said institute. Guess it's a lesson to others. When you legally get your dues from oppressive employers just move on and say nothing more!
When ur voice is not heard in ur own country, what hope do you have in a much stricter nation.
My point was that he should have known better.A few weeks ago I read about the case of a South african doctor who stopped off in Dubai en route home. He had previously worked in Dubai. Immigration arrested him for a case he knew nothing about.
So, we should realise that the GCC is not the same as home..
This looks more like a case of personal grudge...
brit, you know the way we criticize our Govt (even our poor PM)it's just natural for any free person to "criticize" the injustice. he probably took things granted, as we all do many a times, a lesson to learn!!
Having actually read the article, i would say that the professor having already lived in Dubai should have known better..
