Beware of ‘undercover agents’

By Sarmad Qazi
A woman’s distressing experience at the hands of a bogus CID officer has prompted the Ministry of Interior to clarify its policy that any undercover employee may be asked to show his identification.
Lt Mubarak Salem al-Boenain, head of the Media Section, told Gulf Times: “You can certainly ask any official not in uniform to produce an ID showing the organisation he belongs to before following any instructions.”
The assurance comes after an unwitting mother-of-two was manhandled last week by a man purporting to belong to the Criminal Investigations Department.

Been in the same situation but this happen one time late at night, two claiming CID's approaching me and make a quick halt beside my car when I'm about to close the door. They said they're CID's so I asked them with my trying hard arabic words to show their ID's,quickly they replied,"Ok kalas!", off they go.Whoa ,good relief but left me shaken.

Learn some arabic and it will help you tell the difference....when folk claim to be Qatari...

In my last apartment building a woman in abaya opened her car door and threw her trash at the entrance...

I picked it up and handed it back to her...

she started shouting she was Qatari in poor English..

I heard her speak in Arabic and said no she wasn't she was Egyptian and took her number plate...

scared the hebee jeebies out of her and she sped off

daft moo...

nothing wrong asking for id... ask for it - if they dont show -YOU should start calling the police...

Look CID or no CID, undercover cops, fake ID's WHATEVER just be wise esp for our dear ladies. It doesnt matter who the hell shows u what id card, or what they say to you just remember if you want to be on the safe side:

If you havent done anything wrong, u have nothing to worry about. Do NOT get into anyone's car no matter what they say, even if they show u a REAL CID ID card, if you are alone. What is he going to do if you dont go with him? Think about ur safety and as a lady u always have that on your side if things get worse. Say you will call your husband, brother, friend anyone to come along and just make a scene, who knows if its a fake CID agent this might scare him into leaving u alone.

I'm just saying this for the safety of the ladies around, the men well hey if you are into getting in cars with strange men well I wont judge u..lol

Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

Im not accusing her of lying or making it up, its that unless there is seen to be something being done then nothing will change. Then you will get kabayan vigilante attacks.

why I posted in the same thread in Filex group that:

If the local authorities are really serious and sincere about this case, they, themselves can file the complaint against this bastard and use the newspaper article as initial basis (or at least initiate an investigation) as the bastard is easily traceable!

the only reason that the case was not pursued was the time elements for filing a case elapsed, according to the victim (as she has told our group). Your insinuation is offending not only to the victim but to the whole Filex group as a whole as we stand by our "kabayan".

Sounds like same two people from on here and the article.

Unfortunatly not pressing charges means:

*people will think maybe the two were doing something illegal.

*its ok to kidnapp and molest expats as they aren't going to press charges.

What about a fake police ID?

It is VERY possible. Look at the people pretending to be Qataris by wearing thoubes or pretending to be police officers, all with dubious intentions to take advantage of others they perceive as weaker as them. Real police officers would not take offense at the request. Anyone who does, raises clear suspicion that he is not who he says he is.
