Beware of Karwa Taxi Drivers

I have this headache causing experience with a Karwa taxi driver last Wednesday around 7:00 oclock in the evening. I came from this signal near lulu center and hamad hospital and going to Al Jazi Garden in West Bay. When we are on our way, I noticed that the meter was scrolling so fast. We just pass about a few meters away from Al Ahli Hospital when I noticed that the meter was already 8 riyals!!! Only to find out that it was put on a "0" mode. I was kinda furious and reprimand the driver why his meter is put on a "0' mode. The dupe driver without any hesitant gave me a sinister laugh and even dare ask me if what do I like.. to put the meter on 0 or 1? I want to blatantly mess him-off with litanies of indecent words in my native tongue but apparantly I was able to control my temper. I just replied to him , " So it is under the control of us customers to choose whether I like 1 or 0? You should put it on '1" since its still 7 pm and we are still in Doha!!" I silently uttered the word "stupid" to him but he was not able to hear me. I just kept silent and decided that once I alighted from the taxi, I'll get the number and report this to Karwa office. Thank God I was able to learn all this "meter stuffs" from someone who posted it here in QL coz if not I might have paid him around 25 riyals for my ignorance! If this experience will happen to you, please don't hesitate to report it to Karwa office coz I have just recently called them and will act immediately on this matter to punish the driver who is doing this deceitful headache causing act.

Thank you for sharing this info. Now we know what and where to look in the meter taxi. And it's so annoying that they will give you a fixed rate and insisting not to use the meter especially in rush hour and you have no choice but to agree since it's hard to find taxi at those times.

Its always an excuse for them not to take customers if the road they have to traverse to take these customers to their destinations are heavily clogged by traffic. As I pointed out earlier that traffic in Doha is already widespread. It will really rushed your blood and temper to an elevated degree once a Karwa driver declined you as a customer because of traffic!!

Your said it right Dohagvr because any individual regardless of nationality without any hesitation can do this malingering habit to any innocent customers. Peace to everyone.. (",)

last thurday night i have a very bad experience in the karwa service, where in line at the villagio waiting area...the line was so long, but we still waiting for our turn, but most of the drivers, choosing their passengers, many drivers stopped to the waiting customers but they refuse to pick up for the reason that traffic is heavy on the area where the customer is asking...its understandable that every thursday is slow moving traffic...

Yeah, being a cabbie...its good for us to stink. The passenger would faint cos of the smell making it easy for us to rob them of their belongings.

Most of the karwa taxi drivers dosen't like to use meeters. They always try to barging with costemer 10 or 15 or 20 QR before they start travelling like private taxi. Because they says reasion is, karwa paying low salary which is not convenient for them to live in Qatar QR 1500/- only. Thats why they started their own deal with costemer for their own price. The end of the day the amount will go to drivers pocket. But this will not for entire karwa drivers. Some of drivers are very honest.

yes u r right, no wonder!! They r pakistanis, pakistani is same bad like indian, but the difference is .... pakistanis have a very bad body smell more than indians and Indians move their head more while talking

Even before I also had another experience with a stupid karwa driver that he became moody to me since i told him to take another path or road rather than the path that he wants to traverse with!!.. On our way he was saying something that would make me feel guilty that if we would have taken the road that he wants to, then, we would not be trapped in the middle of traffic. I told him anywhere in Doha there is always traffic. So it is not an excuse that you cannot take me to my destination because of traffic. I reiterated to him the customer is always right so dont argue with me! The nerve of that driver being gutsy to quarrel with me! When I reached my destination, I went out immediately and closed the door hard with a bang!!! He was so lucky that I forgot his car number or else another Karwa driver will be eating nuts again to feed his pillock head!!!

macdonald300 i like what you did i feel i know you coz if i were you i do more than compliant to Karwa, and did anybody till me why it's necessary that the all driver of Karwa should be fool. i think that stupidity is most requirement of their job application

It is like this Hawk10... On the right-side portion of the meter you will notice these numbers either 0 or 1.

1 is being inscribed on the meter if it's still daytime and even it is already night time as long as it is not yet 9 pm. Implication is that the meter will scroll and charge you on a normal fare.

The 0 will appear once the clock strikes at 9pm. This is usually done manually by the driver. Implication is that the meter will scroll maybe around 75% faster compared to the speed that it has if its on a "1" mode.

I never had any issues with Karwa taxi before. Maybe I am only here for 3 months and have been lucky so far. The only one or two negative encounters is when trying to book a taxi and they tell me none is available. When I went to the taxi queue a while later.. there was rows of empty taxis there waiting.

This "1" and "0" thing is my first time hearing about it. Thanks for the tip.

thanks drmana & mcdonalds... i dint know all these... coz i hav never travlld in taxi over here... but if needed i will b careful........

Hawk, meter should be in "1" when inside doha city and "0" only when outside the city limits. Meter runs faster per km when in "0".

Check the thread below. It would help you understand:

It would be fair if you'll be charged through the meter rather than charging you with a fixed fare Just come to think of it, Karwa drivers should not be doing this kind of habit; charging you for a fixed price rather than using the meter. I bet their doing this to catch-up easily to the daily boundary they must have.

I didn't get the point of "mcdonalds3000", we have to check if the meter is on 0 or 1. Nobody know all these. Even myself, I am not aware of this. Can you please explain in details if the meter is on 0, it will run fast?
