Dubai Gold and Diamond park. Qatar is a HUGE rip-off, don't even think of buying in Doha.

Hi, I would Exercise caution!

Last year I bought a 0.7 carat diamond ring from Al Suliman (Hyatt Plaza) but they didnt give me any certificate (just a lousy receipt with minimum details).

to add insult to injury, few months later, i found a full 1.0 carat much better designed ring in Dubai and bought it for QR.500 less that that of Al Suliman.

Dubai has more jewellers and competition between them made price more transparent. Plus they provided me with Full valuation certificate.

So, be careful when you buy here in Doha.

Miss Canada this is definately NOT the place to buy diamonds. Everything here is over-priced, right down to their vegetables for goodness sakes.

If you are familiar with Toronto right across the Eaton Centre there is a huge diamond market with the best selection of certified Diamonds. They are sooooo cheap (by comparison) you could pick up a 1.5kt good color (F) and okay clarity (SI2) for less than 10k.

BUT if you're not going to Canada anytime soon, I would just check out Dubai, I already wasted my time here, don't waste yours.

From reading through the posts and having gone to "Amiri Gems" it seems that Qatar isn't the best place to buy diamonds at a good price - or is it?

Has anyone bought a certified diamond from the Souks? Do tell ...

amiri gems is at Al Sadd near Royal Plaza. They also have a showroom in City Centre.

And are any of them certified for cut?

Or are you talking about diamond-chip encrusted stuff rather than individual diamonds....?

ETA: These questions are for qatexpat, who recommended amiri gems - ESLteacher, it sounds like you know what to look for.... :)

Yippee another diamond fanatic!!

Honestly the diamonds in Doha are such a rip off. You can go next door to Dubai and get fabolous deals.

They are pricier here than they are in Canada. For instance in Canada you can get a certified 1KT Diamond that is (F colour and SI1 clarity) for $5000 CAD (approx 15 000 QAR) the same diamond here is 23 000QAR that is after you have hunted searched for a deal.

Don't buy here honestly you could fly to Canada and get a huge great quality sparkler for the same price.
