Did you think Avatar was as technically ambitious a production as a director can imagine? Well, think again. James Cameron wants to travel 6.8 miles beneath the surface of the ocean to shoot footage for the Avatar sequel and win a $10 million X-Prize at the same time. The X-Prize is an award given to pioneers in privately funded science and exploration. It was previously given to the first team to build a privately funded, manned spacecraft and launch it out of Earth's atmosphere. Now a new prize may go to the first private crew to make two manned dives to Challenger Deep, the deepest surveyed point in all of Earth's oceans.Winning the X-Prize would just be a bonus for Cameron in his quest to the bottom of the sea; The Daily Mail reports that the sequel to Avatar will be set in the oceans of Pandora, the planet portrayed in the first film, and Cameron will shoot some scenes with the submarine he's building — in 3D of course.Few filmmakers can pitch something like that to their financiers with a straight face, but Avatar was the most successful film ever, raking in nearly two billion dollars at the box office, so Cameron is among those filmmakers. He might even be the only member of that club.Cameron is no stranger to deep sea exploration. He shot the acclaimed deep sea documentaries Ghosts of the Abyss and Aliens of the Deep.No one has visited Challenger Deep since explorers Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh made the journey half a century ago. The X-Prize was announced to commemorate their voyage.
Most of the movies are coming out in 3D.i wonder if its a great idea or if its going to spoil the whole movie experience.Lets wait and watch what avatar sequel is gonna offer.
Did you watch it because of the 3D hype or the story ?
Waiting for the second one !! First one really took me aback esp the 3D experience.. The movie seemed so colorful too...
Strangely, I felt the same about this film and DUNE before it..
I think the Gulf residents would relate to that..
The messages of both films were stark and simple..
avatar is included as one of the best film ever!
it showed me, for the first time in concrete terms, just how far apart western and eastern cultures and thought patterns are.
I was completely taken back by the fact that not 1, not 1 eastern person I knew who saw the film knew what it was about,,,had no idea why the story was as it was. This appears again in the above posts.
Meanwhile, North American viewers were getting chills racing up and down their spines, there were sessions of intense feelings, guilt, pride, disappointment, shock,,,we saw our parents, brothers, sisters in these characters....and everyone awaits the sequel with most interest...
I am not saying that there is anything wrong with not understanding it, that's a cultural and historical issue, but that's when I gave up any idea that our cultures have any connection at all. They really don't, even if it looks like that on the surface.
Odd how something like a movie illustrates these things..
I too didn't watch the first one and not even interested to watch the second part....:D
Hope this one has a plot. Visually stunning but Pocohontas / Dances with Wolves in space? Gimmeabreak
I didn't even watch the first one...
Hope its more interesting than the first one!
