not a fund drive. I support the cause, we are aware that this thing exists. Thumbs up for those parents who stand by and take care first-hand their kids with this condition. I have a niece that works in the same institution back home, and I noticed this kind of work not only requires an ample of medications but a load of love and tender loving care, patience and understanding.

this is nothing against a few good people who appear to support Autism. I would like to see on QL, all you people, tell me what is Downs Sydrome, what is Autism? Do me a favour, don't google it, tell me your perception. You all did this and yet I reckon you all think that kids with Autism are retarded, just like those in the Shaffalah. They are not, just like kids with Downs.

This a great move to let the society as well as Shafallah Center for Special be aware and to start accomodating special child of expat parents as well.

please delete the abusive and unacceptably foul language of the first poster. It is unwanted on QL

I'm a HOG member of the Harley Davidson bikers, and let me clarify, we were not riding to raise any money for the Shafallah Center, in fact the Center told us they don't accept donations. The ride to bring awareness to the public over Autism, so you as a good person of society would initiate in looking up Autism, how to diagnose it, and what the children with Autism and their families go through on a daily basis dealing with such a disorder. Let your heart be with those children, it's the least we can offer, it might be one of your children, and we'd feel for you as well.

Good Luck, and I'm glad you enjoyed the photos as well.

Moe.

Was a good day... The slow speed was a bit draining, but over all was worth it.

It wasn't to raise money for shaffalah, it was to raise awareness for Autism, how you can criticize that is beyond me. Any attention is good attention at the moment, jumping the old hurdle of locking up you "different" relative in your cellar has been the norm here for a long time. This is actually showing some small step towards progress.

Granted, i think over a 100 loud bikes wasn't the best thing for their nerves, but they enjoyed themselves and that is all that matters, not some numpty's opinion on a web forum.

too upset to deal with your obvious discrimination now. It is obvious you know nothing about Special Needs or Education.

In the mean time, schools are barely able to deal with kids with physical disability. I think it's pre-mature, now, to claim they are "best" at treating kids afflicted with chronic mental disorders.

May God bless your daughter.

Kids with special needs are, sometimes, put in the same class, with the rest of other kids. They're assigned to a trained assistant teacher to educate them.

I was told that, in some cases, those kids are taken to an empty class or office, to be re-taught the subjects of the day all over again, to ensure they will be able to catch up with the rest of the fortunate students.

sorry that is rubbish. Teachers know about Autism, better that you.

My daughter Mary, who has Downs and Autism is not mainstream at all. Some yokes thought she was. I have here, not in school, she can make a meal and a drink. She can also phone for help. That is all I ask. She is safe.

You seem to want to write them off.

I know exactly what you mean. It's not about parades and showing off.

Teachers are totally unable to deal with Autistic kids. The movement is still at infancy.

Dyslexic kids, hyperlexic kids etc. You pretend to be a parent with a normal kid even a mild special needs and they will not want you at all.

here is a job for you, over the next couple of days. Ring up, DESS, Doha College, Park House, Newton, CIS and then come back to me and tell me they will accept mildly Autistic kids.

Shafallah Center is determined to focus on Autism. It has partnered with Qatar Airways for an awareness campaign throughout April.

I’ve seen the motorcade today. The lovely kids, leading the flock of no-less-than 200 bikers, were so happy and thrilled. They were obviously excited.

I am sure schools will also rally for better educational quality provided to those students. Teachers are in need for intensive specialized training.
