as usual, amnesia is giving false information. There are two conditions when Germany grants citizenship with all rights and obligation: 1. The "genetic principle". Being born from German parents automatically makes you a German. 2. The "Birth Place Principle". Being born in Germany (even from non-German parents) automatically makes you a German citizen. At the age of 18 you have to decide which passport you want to keep. The passport based on your birthplace or the passport of your parents. You cannot have two.

"Also bare in mind that it's stormy and the Qatar team are definately out of their element".

>> So what was Qatar's excuse when they were smashed against the Australians in Doha…yeah as the Australian’s are so used to the desert weather *rolls her eyes*.

The fact is that Qatar buys players – if that in your eyes is fair why do care what other’s think??

"The aussie players are not exactly aussies, most of them are naturalised aussies or second generation east europeans".

>> Australia is a multicultural country that actually does give citizenship to people without having to be a skilled sport star.

Second generation Aussies have lived their life in Aus and have citizenship so umm are considered Australian.

The point Architect.J is giving is that people who are born and raised in Qatar are not given citizenship unless as amnesia said they benefit Qatar’s economy.

You can’t compare the two.

renee are you on crack??? the aussie players aren't exactly aussies??? give me a break...based on your logic then we should've had a team of aborigines playing.

@architect, Qatar's law states that a person shall be given citizenship (at their discretion of course), if the individual can benefit the country's economy.

(Like what China, Singapore, Germany, and Belgium do)

I agree with you, I think it's wrong to always mention the root (unless important) because it's what they consider themselves NOW or what their passports are.

Look at America, they're ALL naturalized (in the Olympics :P)

@mojo, 100% agree, let's enjoy the beautiful game :D

like cmon let it go...otherwise we can go on forever, qatar talked heaps, in the end qatar lost and aus won..woohoo..life isnt exactly a box of choclates.

The aussie players are not exactly aussies, most of them are naturalised aussies or second generation east europeans.

so tallg, now u owe baldrick a HUGE prize :)

amnesia, i think the issue is because Qatar gives citizenship just for their football skills. they are strictly against giving citizenship to anyone, even if they have spent their whole lives here, whereas the football players become naturalized for their skills. Other countries too have foreign players, but the fact is they allow you or me to be naturalized if we stay there long enuf, and meet the other criteria.

I am not blaming, but just pointing out that the issue is because of the selective naturalisation that is followed. yes, i think the issue is brought up too frequently, especially because Qatar has not broken any rules. I watched the match on an Australian channel, and the commentators had brought up the 'naturalised' word at least half a dozen times. in the end, they referred to Soria as "the Uruguayan international playing for Qatar"! wtf is that???

@arhcitect, in history we've never lost against Japan so we've got a very good chance.

the funny thing about our team is that we sometimes play amazingly well but they end up screwing it up in the last minute! Wtf?!

@nathan, do you research to see where the players are from. In fact, read this. Qatar's Football Team. Where are they from?

brrr.... and 4-0 it is after full time. qatar played good in patches, but lacked penetration up front. australia were clinical and took advantage of every opportunity.

means japan moves to second place even if they draw their match.

in 1998 qualification, australia thrown away 2-0 advantage against iran at home and bow out due to away goal rules.

this game doesn't have that much of importance. but qatar can take some positives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Qatar's currently at the top of the table with points.

If Qatar loses to Australia hopefully it wont be a huge margin then we'll be second place :D

Also bare in mind that it's stormy and the Qatar team are definately out of their element.

well i dont think he wud have fallen down if he hadnt jumped for the ball at the same time as ther was the push. jus made it easier for the ref.

qatar playin very bad today. 24% possession, not a strike on goal so far!

Well, I guess in the world of nansy-pansy football players where the slightest touch causes you to fall over, then yes it was a penalty.

Qatar really aren't very good, are they?!

I think it will be 2-1 in favour of Australia. I saw earlier a match between Qatar and Bahrain and the first one who scored was Qatar. In first half Qatar got a penalty kick also which was wasted by the player who took the kick. Bahrain then lost one of their defenders with a red card and they were playing with 10 and in the second half Bahrain with 10 players returned the goal.
