astronomical visa fees

according to khaleejtimes UAE is raising the visit visa fees from 100AED to 500AED from the month of July!!!!
not only that but the duration of the visa has been reduced from two months to one!!!
uae govt had really gone nuts.
i have familythere and usually prefer to travel by emmirates because all their flights are vioa dubai. this way i get to visit my family on my way to other destinations.

does aanyone have any experience of getting a visa from the embassy here?how long does it take? i was thinking of getting visas this month and travel next month. i am sure the visa will be valid for atleast a month. wont it?

yeah we are a family of five! this ruins all our holiday plans. 2500 on visas????!!!!!

they didn't charge me at all for visa..nothing..no 1 penny.. why is that?
