Asian Games - Hotel Prices
Has anyone read today's Gulf Times? There is an interesting article about the hotels jacking up their already ridiculously high prices yet again.
http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=112937...
The hoteliers have a real take it or leave it attitude and blatantly state "about 99% of the people coming in for the Games are one-time visitors. They're not going to come back again. It's not like we need to build a bond with them and give them discounted rates."
Need I say anything else........................
Oh yes, I once had to stay at the "Tourist Hotel" as all the main ones were booked out due to a big conference being held. It's an absolute dump of a hotel and to pay QR800 a night is a disgrace.
I feel sorry for people coming to the games and paying these prices ... I am sure it will leave a sour feeling of being ripped off.
Just a post note, on the back page in the Sport's Section headline reads
"Accommodation Glitch Hits Asian Games Athletes Village - Countries told to cut down on team numbers" Basically there is not enough accommodation at the village it can accommodate 10,000 and 13,500 want to stay!
Not only will they not have anywhere to stay, even if they did the average person would think twice about paying the extortionate hotel charges.
It was already reported in yesterday's Gulf Times about GCC people not heading over due to hotel situation.
Who exactly are these games for????
Hotels here are money making machines. A hotel will make more money here than its sister hotel in cities such as London or Sidney etc, however when it comes to spending, unlike others, here they pay their staff slave wages. Disgusting.
On a different note, these games will not attract many visitors... they simply have nowhere to stay...unless they camp in the desert!
The Greed here has no limits here, And it is becoming rampant in Qatar....
no surprises at all.
the actual fun will start once the games start.
Doha is the only place I know where if you bulk book rooms (if you're holding a conference or something) the prices actually go up instead of coming down!!!!
