Art or Voyeurism ..
Art or Voyeurism ..
Especially for Baldrick and the photography Club!
The National Portrait Gallery has just awarded its 2010 Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize to the following shot of a 14-year-old American girl hunting in South Africa. I must say, the portrait is superb – full of colour and imagery.
However, some of the other entries, especially one entitled “Portrait of My British Wife” may be termed explicit.
So, whilst realising that art is subjective – where do we draw the fine line between voyeurism and art ?
Or Should we ?
thank you TB... :P
Or somewhere for travellers to rest hahahahahaha
I'm going to re christen you MJ. We can't have you defined as someone who goes around unharnessing or unyoking.
brit and TB, I'm gonna cry now.. :(
Hahahahahahahaha!!! OMG no no make it stop hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
outspan South African
n [ˈaʊtˌspæn]
1. an area on a farm kept available for travellers to rest and refresh animals
2. the act of unharnessing or unyoking
vb [ˌaʊtˈspæn] -spans, -spanning, -spanned
to unharness or unyoke (animals)
ofcourse outspan has other meanings also :O)
but MJ sure sounds nicer hahaha... ;)
Sure MJ errrrr.... I mean Outspan
Do you remember the outspan car ?
lol TB, is it ok to be christened twice? :P
I hereby christen MJ Outspan
I remember that advert TB :-)
brit, oranges and me? :(
So, you're comparing oranges to mj :O)
I was wrong again... it was Outspan Oranges that were more juicy.
That as well Brit... but Jaffas were definitely "Small Ones are More Juicy".
Are you thinking about the Birds Eye advert which said "Sweet as the moment when the pod went pop" ?
Anyway: Mj - what he means is that the Lord doesn't make diamonds as big as bricks...
I love Jaffa oranges.. :P
Jaffa oranges.... the advert was for Jaffa oranges
LOL TB,.. :P
No issue... no issue at all... small is sweet ;)
In fact I always remember an advertisement for peas that used to read small ones are more juicy. Ummmm.... was that peas or was that something else? Brit HELP?
hmm, I see there's a height issue again.. :P
Buns would be seen from a completely different angle and height.
Not buns... baps... I got it wrong the first time.
from art to buns! wow! :P
Baps where I come from JM, or rack sometimes.
legal hunting age?
are u talking about the dear or the girl?
Bazokas NOT buns
BAPS! Baps not buns.... errrr... sorry..
Why not snessy you got yer buns out?
Yeah you're right Brit and I'm no expert on these things but I sure as hell wouldn't be putting mine on display if it looked like that...Actually, I wouldn't put it on display full stop! LOL
LOL ..
Remember, The Lord made us all different ....
Did anyone else this think "Portrait of My British Wife" looks a little abnormal?? She needs to get that checked out...
14 YO girl went to Hunt in SA! Great.... I hope onje of these days a 30+ girl comes hunting for me too!
lol brit, I don't think that applies to humans.. :P
FOR GOODNESS SAKE !
Now I'll go home and the first check will be Mrs. Expat's ears :O(
hehehe, a new piece of info.. :D
Did it push boundaries? Make you question it? Draw your attention? Then it's art. :)
Indeed it is MJ
is that a fact, TB..? ;)
MJ the horses ears are forward so he is ok. If his ears were back then he would not be happy.
TB, thanks... :D
poor horse doesn't look very happy though.. :P
MJ for you... of course it's free.
Na it's still art, look at the opinions it's created. She is actually very pretty until your eyes scan down. Then you think cosmetic surgery should be an option. But it's still art.
TB lets do shooting one day?....whatever happened to the shooting group FU was to start?
TB, free lessons? :P
MJ I can teach you. I used to belong to a rifle club, and was quite a marksman. Never killed anything though (well not by shooting it anyway).
TB aint a cracking shot, i saw the crack though....
This was actually my point. I love going to galleries etc, but having seen the photograph, I personaly would not categorise it as art.
I for one, would like to learn how to shoot.. :P
from the point of view of the photographer, iw will always be an art.
it will only differs from the point of view of the one seeing the finish product.
im voting for the one with the gun, the wife seems to be needing a different kind of shooting....
Interesting.....Wonder what he's trying to say by calling her British....
This portrait looks great..
The other one is too gross
Oh My GOD! That's definitely not an art.....not at all in any sense. Ewwwwww.........
Blimey JM.... just seen it as well.... Errrr..... Gosh.
Good answer Time Bandit ;) She's probably a rancher Drmana, so she's probably been shooting before she could walk. I think there might be an age limit on purchasing a weapon, probably 18, but not on using one.
Unless I see the other photo I will reserve my comment...
...OMG just saw the pic.... that is not wife ...looks more like a husband down there ;)
Back on subject.... a cracking shot. Errrr.... I don't mean she was a good shot, I mean the photograph is awesome.
This is SA we are talking about dramana, she has probably already shot and killed at least 2 muggers by now.
Lol TB....just wanted to know whether minors can go hunting as well which would definitely need use of firearms. If no legal age for hunting, there must be one for use of firearms.
dramana you ask her, I'm not going to. There is no way I would want to mess with her.
I don't think there are legal hunting ages....
Photography is always art in my mind, no mater what the content it will always make a statement.
14 year old girl and hunting??? Is it legal?
Art is different things to different people. As long as it's not breaking any laws (i.e. nude pictures of children or torture of animals) then it's up to each person to decide.
