Reminds me a bit of Dubai 10+ yrs ago, I first went there 26 yrs ago & then it was, well, to quote from the film 'The Kingdom'....'it's a bit like Mars'

I hope Doha never becomes Dubai, it will lose the charm & soul it has that Dubai sold up years ago....along with it's beaches.. ;-)

This Fall friends from the UK and I are taking the train from Montreal, across the wheat fields of Saskatchewan, the open prairies and foothills of Alberta, then the Rockies from Alberta to BC & the Pacific Ocean. I've always flown from East to West and this trip will give me the chance to watch the terrain change so we're really excited. I will have pics if you both want to see them when I get back.

I think I've enjoyed them all but found Iceland the most interesting I think and wish I could have stayed a bit longer but the project was over and I had to move on. Brazil was pretty exciting and fast paced, all of Canada is beautiful in my totally biased opinion but the Rockies are breathtakingly so. Saudi was okay and Doha about the same so far. Living in different parts of the world opens up your heart as well as your mind so every place I've had the pleasure to live, thus far, is pretty special

...that's a toughie Amreen, having been in Dubai for the last few years I'm already used to the region.

Have you ever lived in the ME at all?

I think to make comparisons you have to personalise it to what you'd be doing work-wise, home-life, social & overall leisure life.

For some people I think they'd find the change huge, for others they settle in easily & quickly.

Is your question relating to Doha vs. UK genereally, or accomodation?

The price of petrol you'll laugh at, Dubai is cheap, Qatar half the price!! My 5 series BM in Dubai costs about 94 Dirhams to fill from under a quarter full, divide that by 7.3 & you'll see how cheap it is.

Halve it again for Qatar....

I reside in Ezdan, Al Dafna, very close to the Sheraton.

Well at least I know you're not one of those people who constantly call out 'Up the ar*e!!' ;-)

Who do you support then?

So where will you be teaching in Qatar?

Was chatting to an English lady last week at Ezdan who's out here on an education project on behalf of the Qatar Govt & she's got 30-40 teachers coming out here imminently.....you one of them me wonders??!!
