Any Singaporeans in Doha?

By sclarke

Hiya!

My husband and I will be relocating to Doha before the end of the year from Singapore. Would be great to meet up with fellow singaporeans or anyone who would like to meet up with us (fellow newbies or folks who have been in Doha for a while). We are looking for a place to stay too, either an apartment or villa. We can't wait to get there!

hi I am already in Doha for a few months now. I wish to know if we can renew our PR in singapore, if we are still here at that time?

Dear Singaporeans, I am a PR from sg , shifting to Doha .

I wish to join your group if there are any .

I wish to shift some personal effects from Singapore to Doha. The local cargo pple charge around 18 sgd per kg. Is it worth bringing? Do you have the address of Singapore Cargo in Sg that i am unable to search online. Thanks and wish to meet you all..

It took 2 months time to think of moving out of Sg .. but I am seeing a lively crowd here , that is creating enthusiasm in me.. to come to Doha..

We are just 2 of us.. How abt bank account transfers..

Hey,

I have just created a forum for Singaporean in Qatar. If our friends at UAE (http://uaesg.com/forums/index.php) has one forum for Singaporean, why cant we have one also.

The link is http://www.theredcitizen.com/qatar/forums/

Please take note that this forums is not under RDQ. So, sign up the forum doesnt make you a memeber of RDQ.

There are plenty of good international schools around. Only thing there is a lot of demand so you kinda have to get the ball rolling even before you come here. My son goes to Park House School - a british curriculum intl school here. There's also the American school. Doha College, DESS, Qatar Intl School etc ( i think u can google the list of international schools here). School fees range from QR5K plus a term for reception class. For your son 4 years old he would be going to KG2 in September? or Reception Class as they call it in the international school, my youngest daughter is the same age. I am from Singapore and have 5 kids. Have been here for a year.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Hi, my husband and I are looking at moving to Doha by year end. We've never been there and have no idea what is the rental like. What is a reasonable price for a 3 bedroom apt?

Plus, can somebody also recommend a good International School for my 4 1/2 year old?

Embassy launches new website

Published: Monday, 21 July, 2008, 01:06 AM Doha Time

Kevin Liew... wider reach

THE Singapore embassy in Doha has launched its new website, featuring an electronic consulate (e-consulate) information system.

The website, http://www.mfa.gov.sg/doha, provides comprehensive and up-to-date information on the consular and visa services to both Singaporeans as well as members of the public residing in Qatar, an embassy spokesperson said yesterday.

The site provides information including the embassy’s contact and location details; notarial and consular services; visa services for visitors to Singapore; as well as links to other useful websites for overseas Singaporeans and potential visitors to the country.

Kevin Liew, head of chancery and first secretary at the embassy, said: “After first establishing our physical presence in Doha in December 2006, the embassy now has a “virtual presence” on the Internet.

“We will be adding other features over the next few months to further enhance the usefulness of the website, and welcome feedback from members of the public on how to improve it further, which can be sent to the new embassy email [email protected],” he explained.

Liew added that the Singaporean National Day Celebrations, jointly organised by the embassy and the Red Dotters Club (RDQ), will be held at Movenpick Towers & Suites Hotel, on August 9.

He said that guests should call to indicate availability for the event on 4128082/83 extension: 241, or e-mail [email protected].

There are evening performances now in the shopping malls and exhibition centre starting today (Summer Festival). You can try that for some activity to pass time - at least its aircon.

Avoid Friday cos that the family day thingy here where bachelors not allowed into malls and the souqs. Anyway, it depends cos there's are also news that they allow certain nationalities in whilst others cannot. I usually go with family. Cheers.

1. from dasman centre u proceed to Toyota Tower (last time there was an Emir picture hanging on the building).

2.At the traffic junction u make a U turn and follow right lane.

3. Turn to the slip road and make right turn.

4. follow the road and make a left turn at the first left slip road.

5. when u reach the first roundabout turn left.

6. Follow the road till u see Thai Smiles on ur left.

Note : U will see dasman centre from there!

On the map shown, there is a road named Al Hada opp Dasman Centre. Thai Smiles is at the end of that dead end road.

In short. 5 options.

1. Buy new (go showrooms)

2. Buy secondhand (QL classifieds, ExpatSouq, Oasis 2nd hand cars, supermarket billboards, major car distributors have 2nd hand car section, friends in big companies cos many people leaving, advertise by RedDotters, signs on car windows, there is a place people talked about in the industrial area but I haven't tried it)

3. Buy repossessed cars.

4. Win a car prize from supermarket promotion. Haha.

5. Import.

When you come, this can be kopitiam talk. Lot of stories and info.

You got me confused. There is a Chatterbox Restaurant in Doha also. I thought you were refering to that one. once I paid S$ 50.00 for a plate of Chicken Rice in one of the hotels near to the Glass Hotel :)

"If you want Chicken Rice here in Doha, they do sell it at Thai Smiles (small corner thai restaurant hidden opp Dasman Centre Airport Road)."

On the Airport Road or Najma Road ?????

DennistheMenace

The original chef from Chatterbox has since moved to Changi to set up stall in a food centre.

If you want Chicken Rice here in Doha, they do sell it at Thai Smiles (small corner thai restaurant hidden opp Dasman Centre Airport Road).

Otherwise, get someone to bring over the PrimaDeli Premix. Comes with mix to make the rice and marinade the chicken. It also has packets of chicken rice chilli sauce, black soya sauce, garlic/ginger sauce. If you want to make the rice smell better, you can get fresh pandan leaves from Shop Rite Supermarket (Airport Road after Pizza Hut) at 16QR/kg.

Fun can be safe.

Parting shot. Free advice is not necessarily good advice. Don't take someone else suggestion and give half a story - when a reader reads it, its misleading because that's all they know to form a mental picture. I think it is called half-truths or something like that.

oh. btw. I also don't need anyone to unwittingly kill my innocent, good intention suggestions for activities to do and places to eat in Doha. Just imagine a tourist comes to Singapore and you suggested that he tries the Singapore Flyer. Then someone tells him that a fatal accident occured on it omitting the part that the guy ignored safety precautions. Mmmm... Same Same.

You don't care if people retort what you write ? Doesn't seem so here. Calling people names too (touchy, like only fun, you prefer not to mention, etc). Ouch.

Thank you for your kind wishes. After all the negative strokes, some positive strokes.

Hi dennis, thanks for the info about the quad bike, yup i do very interested in it, but always with safety in mind as my i'm working in safety line. Accident do happen even when you are fully prepared for it but at least we have take certain measure of precaution either to avoid or prevent it from happenning. May be at the moment need to shelve the idea first and concentrate on my settle down.

I do believe 888 is trying to give advise and reminds me on the safety measure and try to relate the accident that happened to her friends and hope that it will not happen to anyone of us...touch wood k....thats a nature of a caring mother or rather a friend thanks 888 will always puts safety a top priority in my mind.

Well bro dennis looking forward to your invitation. hope will be able to be there.

wow i didn't expect that we could do alot of thing there in the desert...really looking forward for a new kind of experience...may be you can guide us later when we are there...

BTW i do intend to drive there, so what do you recommend?? any place where i can get a good bargain for car??

as for the food, well even the names of the road i'm not familiar, well may be when i'm there and had adjusted my bearing then i'll move around and update you with the location of different food that you need.

Why are you so touchy on this quad bike matter, I am just telling others of the danger, it seems that you only want to hear of exciting thing and fun, looks like you prefer me not to mentioned all these incidents, is there anything wrong for me to post it? I am not advising anybody and anyone can read it and accept it or not, I dont care whoever believe it or not, I dont care whoever want to retort on it. If you are not happy about it then just forget about it and not start criticising me, I dont need your opinion neither your idea of what I should do. You enjoy your stay here and have a fun and nice time in Doha. Good luck to you ....

As far as I concerned, this topic is closed.

As for quad. now too hot for us lah. Don't know of a quad group amongst S'poreans. Easiest is get a car to drive south to Sealine Resort when the cooler season starts after ramadan. Try it but go slow.

Right now, most pple are either going or has gone home or on a holiday in a cooler country. Envy ..

There's a Qatar Natural History Group that is also good to join. Only QR30 a year. They do plan lots of exciting field trips into the desert, nearby islands and neighbouring countries. Imagine finding desert rose, gysum crystals and shark teeth fossils. There were also a trip to camel race track, desert camp, singing sand dunes and inland sea. Right now they have trips to Syria, Iran and China.

As for laksa, I have yet to try cooking it myself. It should not be difficult. So for now, anyone who can cook it (whether filipino or other I don't really care), I will try first. It's like why some people would go Chatterbox in Mandarin when there is hawker centre chicken rice. Just don't do it too often unless your paycheck very good. So far haven't gone to the Malaysian restaurant so cannot say if the standard is good or not. Let me know if you go. Now I'm trying to find out exact location of the Neu/Neo restaurant along Salwa road that has all u can eat sushi.

Laugh, is that's all you can do and tell stories? Com'on Is that how you give advice ? Better not if you are not sure. Sounds more like a knee jerk reaction to me when you mentioned case.

If you are really keen to help Singaporeans here. I would suggest that you advise anyone who would want to try to go slow, test it out on flat ground, try the gentler slopes, take a less powerful quad. That's more like it. Not "hey, I heard someone got mangled and died". In any case, the bike is hard to topple unless you are on a mishandling it on a steep slope or speed excessively on the undulating desert ground.

I guided my kid when she tried the quad the first time. She got reckless and had cuts and bruises. A mistake that she now learns, remembers, rides safely and enjoys tremendously. Could I have prevented the mishap ? No. If she is going to try downhill skiing, I would let her try but take lessons first.

The kid you mentioned did not decide that he can go on the bike. The parents did and allowed it. Your colleague who smashed his knees knew the risks too ? Being adventurous does not necessarily mean being dangerous or unsafe. Anything mishandled increases risks and danger.

Like I said, you quoting a case that comes without the full picture misleads and that scares people off.

Forgot about the quad for now - save it for autumn. Driving in Qatar is a real need and can be life threatening. Lots of accidents happening and fatal ones too but things are improving. There are of course still the occasional reckless road bullies. Watch out for them ! Pick the right car (one that you can manage and not what you can afford) and drive safely. Enjoy your stay in Qatar and do travel around this historical and culturally-rich region.

you really make me laugh, you says "dont scare people off by qouting isolated cases", I hope you do understand people here are mature and literate and I am sure they can judge for themselves where to take precaution upon receiving information from others.

I am just relating the incident because it happens to my friend's friend and the parents have since left Doha because they are so traumatic and distraut after the incident. FYI the quad bike topple on the boy because he was left alone to ride on it. No precaution taken by the parents and they take blame for not thinking of the danger.

As a Singaporean I just want my fellow Singaporean to take precaution, I know there are very adventurous people around, by all means go ahead and do whatever you want, who cares, I dont care whatever or wherever you want to enjoy and make your life enjoyable but if anyone wants to take precaution, I have given them some information.

BTW do you think the incident of this boy is an isolated case, do check around there are more incidents there. I have heard of it too.

And to keep others informed one of our colleagues got into an accident there and have since gone back to Singapore because both his knees are smashed so badly that he have to be wheeled back to Singapore. Am I scaring others off - lol

Normally most of us arrange to have all our bill payment in Singapore to Giro. As for money transfer the easiest is to have your salary paid in a bank that can later be transferred to you account in Singapore. Most of us normally used HSBC. They have both in Singapore and Doha.

Will introduce my friend to you when she returns here after the school holiday.

Dont worry too much about hydrophonic or yellow mee, just try if you have time, if not concentrate on more important issue like your relocation to Qatar.

Regarding school, all my friends have gone back home during this school holiday, so cant get information until they are back.

Regarding accommodation too I cant be of much help cos my friend who have some information on housing too has gone back for holiday to Singapore.

Will try to ask around others. Anyway housing here is very very expensive, even Singapore rental is not so expensive.

Coming to ME is already out of the comfort zone for most. It would be dead boring if you don't try the new stuff.

Anyways, it was unclear as to how the boy got into the accident. Maybe he tried a stunt with the quad or go too fast for him to handle. It has the same risk as skiing or any other sport. Thousands have tried, don't scare people off by quoting isolated cases. No wonder we have pple always saying that Doha is boring. ....

Wah hopefully Abil will come up with the recipes of the yellow noodle from his mum. So there are two things you owe us Abil - one vegetable growing and now yellow mee - look forward to your innovation. Btw Abil I am a female lah, not Bro lor ...... I am kakak lah, young man ....maybe introduce me to your wife when she is here...

Abil, dont make any decisions for your daughter education yet, come first and decide because PSLE is rather important part of a childs education - sometimes in life we have to sacrifice but when it comes to education you must get the best for her. So come here and decide about her education. If worst come to worst, then let her finish here PSLE there. Whatever it is try you best to get her a good school, cos some school here is real lousy i heard from friends.

Kanu08, me too looking for yellow mee here, cant find any except during Ramadhan you can get it in small packets at the Malaysian Embassy Ramadhan Bazaar.

I think the person who sell the yellow there also do it presently but she sells in a minimum of 5 kg. and its very expensive I heard. If you really interested you can contact her directly, will give you the contact thru my Malaysian friend.

Hi Bro 888,

i'm planning to come first and my family later either Nov or Dec. So the next earliest date for her to joint skool is July and provided she get a place....so if she comes in in Jan she got 6 months holiday...?? Goodness!!!

Or is it good ok to let her finish her PSLE before joining me but that will be end of next year??

So for the quad bike will shelve the idea at the moment.

just to add, schools start in September but registration can be as early as in February. Afterwhich 1 week later no more vacancy....so better plan for your kids before coming to Doha.

Good, look forward to your experiment in Doha, if successful it will be great for us.

Check with Singaporean friends here, they say you should come here first and enroll your girl here first, then only you bring her over. Need not waste her time here if not in school. School here starts in September (now its going to be summer holiday until September). In Singapore its June school holiday now I suppose.

Last month, I even make otak otak and sambal stingray - banana leaves and all and had BBQ party at my place.

Food n restaurants - everything international can also find. Only difference is price and getting to know where they sell. Check out Shop Rite supermart along Airport Road and Carrefour when you come. Thai Snack is one restaurant that most Asians like to visit. A SAHM is even selling home order mini-curry puff.

Just discovered that they have sushi/sashimi corner in Landmark Carrefour just like back home. Less variety though (comes pre-packed variety sets between 38QR to 87QR).

Soccer. Played when younger. I think can still play but stamina gone lah. Especially in this heat too 'xiong' lah. Watched the Qatar vs Aust qualifier match last Sat. An experience cos small group of 1000 Aussie fans amongst whole stadium of qataris fans in white. Haven't heard of any group playing. I know there was a tennis n bowling group before but i think the bowling group stopped. My wife n I do run free weekly yoga classes though. Better when you are here to try the quad bike and dune bashing with 4x4 near Sealine. Something new (even my kids try it). Beaches are also clean and water clear (shallow though). Fishing is good esp with a boat. Fishing from the shore will still catch u small fishes (but sure can get a few).

Yes Abil hydrophonic technology is a very good idea, why not you try it here, if ok, lets all learn something from you. Will wait until you are here to try it out.

kucinta, what to do, what you say is true. I heard from Singaporean friends is, just make do with whatever school you can get here even if its not to our standard in Singapore. It seems every school seems to have long waiting list and their school fee is real high, luckily most of them got sponsored from company. If not its real tough paying for education here. If you go to international schools its real expensive, comes to thousands of QR per year. Yes I have friends who left Doha because of their children's education and left behind their husband to fence themselves here without family.

Yes PATIENCE IS A MUST HERE for us Singaporean. Nothing is as efficient as back home. We are here to have overseas experience and maybe earn more for the sake of our children future. Just remember as long as we have shelter, food and healthy, just thank God and hope for the best of our stay here. We have to accomodate ourselves here as much as possible. In fact its not here only everywhere in this world its the same, nothing is like home correct?

Good luck of all us here....

We met b4 at CHNY dinner wif a few malay family.

Bytw wht u said is true. I dun tink our embassy can help that much. School term end June for 2 mths. New term start Aug. There're alot of family wif kids who're on waitin list. A few years back there's not many expat here in Doha. And during that time u can get a place very easily. Like PHES,DESS. But now even CAMBRIDGE schools to some say it's standard is low compared to good schools (need not mention)... has a long waitin list. i've no complaints enroll my 6yr girl at CISG.

As i dun drive and they provide school transport. there're even some S'pore family who leave Doha for good as they can't get a place(school)for their kids. Most of the good schools priotised nationality. Being here is like if ur lucky things may turn out good. And PATIENCE is a must here for us Singaporean. Cannot complaint and be choosy like back home....

Hi Checkers,

Yes you can get fresh red chillis here but its rarely available and when available it cost a bomb. Green chillis are plentiful here, so the only way to get red ones is to buy green ones and keep it to turn red lol - but I am serious, have to be innovative when you are here.

Hi All Singaporean (not Sillyporean - please dont downgrade yourselves, this forum is read by all nationalities so dont make a fool of ourselves).

Regarding driving in Doha, please apply for International Driving Licence in Singapore before you come here. It can be used here until you get your RP - by then you are given a grace period of 6 months to convert it to Qatar Driving Licence. In order to get the local licence you have to go for driving lessons and please bear in mind the lessons will be conducted on manual drive instead of automatic. This can be quite stressful for some, so be prepared for it.

PM me if you need further information or clarifications.

only things i know don't have for cooking is belacan. Miss delicious malaysian durians.

Normal oilment like tiger balm is available in the FFC supermarket.

If you feel homesick, go to the malaysian restaurant at the Souq Waqif.

There's even more variety of fruits here. Just bought fresh almonds. Cherries cheaper here too.

Clothes no prob. Now there is summer sale.

hi BRO COOLMOEDEE,

i guess SG didn't play badly during the game only for the defenders are making school children mistake, apart from that the midfield and strike did ok, and to score three against Uzbek, is not an easy task as the mighty Saudis failed to do so and SG lost to a last minute goal when the played Uzbek at their home ground. So not bad for a kampung team that now going Global...he he he go Lion go!!!! if we the so Called Singaporean does not support our players who else bro??

Well Fandi is now coaching with Pelita Jaya a proffessional club in Indonesia with Kadir Yahya as his sidekick, Sundram the dazzler is coaching the Yound Lions or S'pore under 23, Nazri is the General Manager of Tampines Rover which is doing quite well in S League.

Sinagpore national team is improving over the couple of years and now in the 2nd round of the World cup qualifier an achievement so far under this Serb coach.

You play any soccer bro, may be we can kick around soon in Qatar...

Ist you have to get your RP in place. Bring your Sin D/L (original)along with you. once you have Your RP apply for Qatar D/L. The traffic police officer decides whether you have to go through all the tests (Signal, Technical, L , Pocket parking and finally the road test) or just the road test exempting you from all other tests. This will be decided by the officer only. (One of my Malaysian friend got exemption from other tests showing his Malaysian D/L).

However you will be allowed to drive with International licence until you get your Qatar D/L (for that you have to enrole in a Qatar Driving school)

Cheers to Sillypore :)

As malay of course I suppose you are muslim, so food is not an issue, when you are alone before family its ok but when you fetch your family here, do bring some rempah rempah, here its all indian rempah and ikan bilis, udang kering, cili kering here is very hot. And most important belacan lah. As for cold clothing if you have there bring over or else its available here as well. Not sure of price comparison.

I am here only last year and notice winter starts around October and gradually becomes very cold until early this year. I heard these past two years was the coldest winter since 15 years.

Hi Checkers,

If you are chinese then you can bring your ba kut teh spices and cooked with mutton here (no pork) here. If you do cook then bring ikan bilis, dry prawn, taucheo, dry tauhu & others. Sauces are available here. As for toothpaste, there are so many here. Dont bring. You can find x oil and vicks here but not chinese ointment. Bring your own herbal tea but most important dont forget to bring Nin Jom Pei Pa Koa, its very necessary in this hot weather. As for medicine there is tons here, not to worry.

Hi Triple8 and all, I'm so relieved and happy to know that there are so many fellow Singaporeans in Qatar. 7 more weeks before I leave and I was already starting to get a little homesick and scared. I know Bogster is also leaving in early July - I'll be there on 18th July myself. It'll be really useful if you can tell us what essential stuff to bring! I'm thinking like my Darlie toothpaste, some chinese ointment I always use, a coat or two and sweaters and mum was just telling me to buy pre-packed 3 in 1 herbal tea etc. Is that really necessary? I'm Chinese and I really am gonna miss my Ba Kut Teh here in Singapore.

Infact there are so many schools here. If you want British standard then maybe you can try Cambridge School or probably you called our Embassy for some recommendation of schools.

From what I learn from my neighbours the waiting list normally depends on the availability of vacancies of the school. I also understand the children here starts school at aged 6 instead of aged 7 as in Singapore.

What is best I think you get the information from our Embassy and email which ever school you want and try to register with them before your children arrived.

Good luck!

Factor in buying a car too. A must - Can't get around without one. Brand new 2.4L Honda Accord only QR78k. Most people here buy 4x4.

Calling karwa cabs troublesome but now very reliable. There is bus service but so far never heard of any s'porean taking bus.

Petrol is dirt cheap - only QR80cents per litre. Imagine its now $2.30 in S'pore.

Food wise, just go Thai Snacks or Asian Traditional (thai/chinese), Lahore (briyani), Moon Palace (sushi), Indonesian nasi pandang (near museum R/A) and many more.

For travel - go round the region. Jordan and Oman are nice. Flying to India is cheap too. Spain and Europe is not far away too. Just try to go on a holiday during summer (hot like hell). If into desert - its an experience - sand dune bashing, desert bike, night sky super clear with lots of stars. beaches are clean and water is clear unlike East Coast - not crowded too.

Housing - old apts slightly better cos things are working. New ones lots of things may still not be there.

All things - here inflation is 13% so if paid in Qr, money gets smaller and smaller unless they unpeg from USD.

Thanks Ultraviolet, for reminding me about considering CPF contribution.

My current salary is about SGD4,000. so I guess i should use this together with employer's contribution as a base for negotiation.

I will definintely be in contact with them especially asking for a black and white copy of the offer.

Can i just confirm with you guys if the exchange rate is 1 QAR = 0.378756 SGD.

If so i would think that the offer is really low.

By UltraViolet• 1 Apr 2008 21:30
UltraViolet

If you can't hear them, email them to check on the benefits and salary information.

Important thing to consider, is try to get co. accomodation.

Transport is cheap and you can buy cars without COE as in Singapore.

Overall salary must consider CPF contribution - ee+emplyr percentage - coz' they don't provide pension benefits here.

You decide.

If its QAR 10k, you might as well stay put in Singapore.  If its SD10k, you can think twice and if US10k then go for it ha ha....

Well assuming my fiance can't get a job in Qatar, that means it's definitely a much worst off move.

I don't suppose QR2k will get me a room hahaha. Well I guess I have to wait for documentation to be here before i can decide to accept or not.

By janeyjaney• 1 Apr 2008 18:10

It also depends on your fiance's salary and compensation.

Housing here is a tad bit expensive.. A good flat is roughly around QR8,000 semi-furnished. So, you have to scope around really hard.

I've been in Doha since 2006 and I can't wait to leave! YAY!!

Not to burst your bubble or anything but I guess it's time to move on and part ways with Doha -town. ;)

By terencechan• 1 Apr 2008 18:02

Thanks! I received an offer from Qatar Airways, and the pckage it seems to me to be very low.

A 10k package

Basic of 5k

Housing of 2k

Supplementary income of 3k

Now the phone call from them was kinda fuzzy, i didn't catch if it's in QAR or otherwise. But i shall assume it is as QAR. If so I think it is very low. What are your views on this?

We will be getting married soon , just that the date is not fixed. If we are married before I accept the job I suppose I will be bringing her as a lawfully wedded wife. :)

Hi,

This is a Muslim country, unlike Singapore, so be prepared to observe some islamic rules and law here.

I am not working so I dont know the working culture here, but you should know working anywhere  in the world is all the same. "Office politic"  is unavoidable anywhere, it exists just like any politic.

Here the weekend is Friday and Saturday.  As for housing it depends on your income, big money , big house, small money , small house.

As for food, nothing compared to Singapore , so bring as much as you can - but only permissible food.

If you are not lawfully married and intent to bring your fiancee. how are you going to sponsor her - on what relationship?

Anyway be prepared for many other inconvenience as compared to Singapore's efficiency - you just have to accept it.

Goodluck ,

Dear fellow Singaporeans,

I've just been offered a job in Qatar and would like to know what is the usual salary range and package, and also preferably the following

-working culture

-housing options

and anything I've missed out.

One issue i might have is as I'm currently engaged but not married in the eyes of Singapore law, what are the options available to me. I believe it's not possible for an unmarried couples to be staying together in Qatar. Do correct me if i'm wrong.

Anyone with advice might email me @ [email protected] . i look forward to your advice.

Hmmm what else? hmmm! etc! just can't think right now! I'm a bit dizzy already! ;-)

I guess if you looking for an HDB to rent it would be cheaper than private condominium (i have no idea how much though).

Mind you during my past life in Singapore ... i work in local hotel ... my work mate only earn 1.100 SGD ... with 3 kids in tow ... they are surviving.

Try to post your question here :

http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=59

I think you will have more up to date answer. :-) Good luck!

Thanks, Novita. But still I think 4000 SGD is a not-so-good offer as on date. What do you think?

By novita77• 9 Jun 2007 21:00
novita77

1. 6 yrs ago in Singapore we live in 2 bedroom condominium in Sin Ming Plaza and the rent about 1.700 SGD

2. Depend how much you eat out or eat in. But food in singapore is very cheap. You can find food court nearly everywhere walking distance from where you live. Our electric and phone bill around 200 SGD monthly.

3. There is all sorts of school in Singapore ... but no idea about the cost since we have no kids when we lived there.

4. Income tax the more you earn the more you pay the tax. I remembered my husband have to pay 18 percents income tax.

Hope this helps :-)

There's a number of Singaporeans now in Doha. I'm just one of the many:) Still very very new to this place - arrived on 3rd Oct'06. I think you will like this place - a lot of old and new sites to visit.

Kind of remind you of Malaysia in the 70s or 80s in some parts of Doha. So far, the city has appealed to me; safe, peaceful and quite an awe with the way constructions are going on here.

Hey, let me know if you need some quick info n see if I could be of any assistance.
