Airline Employee fired for humiliating
MANILA, Philippines – An employee of Lebanon's national airline, MEA has been fired for humiliating travelers from the Philippines.
The woman, who was working at the counter at the Beirut Airport, used the loudspeaker to announce "Filipino people, stop talking," addressing a group of Asian passengers.
A Lebanese businessman, who witnessed the incident complained to the ground staff, but was brushed off.
He then took to Twitter and Facebook to launch a protest campaign and sent a letter to the airline company which promised to investigate.
The incident is part of what human rights groups say is widespread discrimination and abuse of foreign workers in Lebanon.
More than 200,000 women from Asia and Africa work as maids in the country of 4 million people.

Abed Shaheen, u simply rock...... Proud of u
the funny part is that on a page supposed to face the racist comments of the Leb lady by civilized objective comments you get nothing but more racist and hatered-based comments generalizations and other stupid stuff...
IQ less than 60 stuff, the man who reported it is Lebanese himself and you hypocrits have to look in the mirror and see how racist you are!
Well done to the businessman for pursuing this and to the airline for taking appropriate action.
What an ill mannered and totally racist biyatch! Well, what goes around, comes around...just wait:)
From what i can gather Abed Shaheen is also Lebanese ...
Hey nuff with the stereotyping! Not all Lebanese are racist or have faces cut out of plastic!
I have some of the most decent friends here in Qatar and they are Lebanese!
Abed Shaheen is a man in a million . Well done sir!
Britexpat read the businessman's tweet here to get even more clarity

And what could possible ground staff have done?
and nasty ways. Certainly hope she repents her actions and will reform hereafter. And good of the MEA for taking a big step towards ending discrimination..may this woman serve as a good lesson to all those racists and bigots who think nothing about hurting others and causing them humiliation.
ok, I have read the article, what the woman did was obviously malicious and therefore wrong.
Restoring order is one thing, but being mean about it is not right.
No brit, will read it now.
Honestly, knowing what these poor girls go through, it is not very easy not to lose it.
I mean I know a lady who works on a plane as well and she said that once an Indian guy took a dump on the sink not knowing that it is to wash the face. All I mean, these people go through a lot and we all have moments that we lose control.
Telling people to be quite is not a crime and only those who feel inferior by their nationalities take it personal... I am sure if she said.. Hey Australians, quite please... it would not have been taken that bad!..
Just relax people..
gossip masters in here
It is NOT racist to mention someone's nationality!.. it really is not
I have read the article britexpat.
what the link that i posted above ?
I have read the article.
Read the article please ..
Well, it apparently is!Or is that only when it comes to Filipinos?
Nomerci are you telling me NOT to call a spade a spade because it is offensive?
Perhaps this will shed more light :
http://www.thenational.ae/news/world/middle-east/lebanese-airport-worker-sacked-for-humiliating-filipinos
More than 200,000 women from Asia and Africa work as maids in the country of 4 million people.
So? More than a million indians work as drivers (Draywar) in Qatar... What is the fuss about?
Lebanese women think they are God's gift to humanity.. Not only they look like a plastic doll that has the same face if she's happy, upset and about to suicide... They think it is hot...
Nomad, stop being offensive calling people by their nationality!
bush and obama look different but they are both americans.
spade and a shovel, they all look the same to me! :O
ok, never mind:P
we could call a spade a spade when we are at hour homes i dont think it is acceptible in an internation airport where you have to use a loudspeaker. nomad is write who knows if they were all filipinos?
Well, if those 'group of asian passengers' were not Filipinos then its a racist comment by the woman at the counter.
Cold War
justice
Well...but what if it IS a group of a certain nationality that is exceptionally loud?
Now, I don't do racism, but I also call a spade a spade. Why? well, because it IS a spade.
But you could also say:" People, please be quiet", without mentioning a nationality!
Well...what if it was the group of Filipinos who were noisy? how should they be adressed?
In fact, I was at a hospital today. And the staff behind the counter could be heard chatting with each other all over the place.
Or, go into a shop you can be sure that you will hear loud talking.
Now, maybe it is the way the language works. BUT,maybe it is also possible to lower the noise level.
Remember reading that businessman's tweet and responding "Get used to racism, its Middle-East". Good to know he did something about it..
lol QDCLover!
right on! ;)
there are always heroes out there!
The lebanese lady was trying to put on her 6th layer of make up and the Filipino passengers were making too much noise for her to concentrate.
I for one thought that the lebanese themselves would be looking out for jobs as maids and such type of work out here in the Gulf with the situation prevailing at the moment in that country
Well done to the Business Man who highlighted this. Shame on MEA.
