Air India - mid-air brawl between Crew

Harry99
By Harry99

Remind me not to fly Air India .

Air India is investigating reports of a mid-air brawl between pilots and cabin crew on board a flight from the United Arab Emirates to Delhi in the latest of a series of embarrassments for the Indian national airline.

The crew members threw punches and hurled abuse at each other — in full view of 106 passengers — after an air stewardess accused one of the co-pilots on Flight IC-844 of sexually harassing her, according to Indian media reports.

At one point the cockpit of the Airbus A-320 was left unmanned and one of the pilots threatened to land the plane in Pakistan, which it was flying over at the time, according to one of the reports.

Air India issued a statement saying that it had ordered an inquiry and grounded two pilots and two crew members after the incident, which occurred at about 4.30am local time on Saturday.

It is still not clear how or when the fight started but media reports suggested that it stemmed from an angry exchange of words during the pre-flight briefing before the plane took off from Sharjah International Airport in the UAE.

The 24-year-old air stewardess accused one of the co-pilots of trying to molest her and, when she resisted, of pushing her out of the cockpit, according to Delhi police.

They say that they have registered a case against two pilots — identified as Commander Ranbeer Arora and Captain Aditya Chopra — on suspicion of committing “assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty”.

The pilot would have been really desperate....

The govt have really screwed up the once TATA Airlines.

All the pilots of AI should be booted out when the plane is in full flight....."retired on-duty" would get a better meaning...lol

for ya information the autopilot turns on automatically after take off and shuts off before landing...its generally in that mode....am not sure bout air india....taking into account the history of disasters....Nwayz i understand ya concern...disaters do happen becoz of human error...and if somethg like that had happened to this flight...then air india wud have be grounded for ever

Brit Most people are just making fun of the incident because if you are exposed to the working of government organizations in India, you don't get surprised at anything they do. Most of them are filled with corrupt, inefficient, sexually frustrated, greedy ba*tards.. What else can you expect from them..

Thanks Brit...and I understand and share your point specially when the pilot threatened to land it in Pakistan... I am not sure what kind of ramifications that could have had...

How better would this situation be handled is anybodys guess who knows how things work in India more specifically keeping the involvement of the irresponsible and erratic unions who ultimately call the shots...

Thank you brit...@ the risk of going on a tangent here, how ugly or beautiful the hostess' are isn't the issue here, does the fact that they're older/uglier make them less of a human being??? & btw,not that it matters to this topic but since so many people seem to be going on about it,would all those people cribbing about old, ugly hostess' on AI try flying a route other than the mid-east-India sector before posting here?...try flying Bombay-Heathrow or JFK before writing these comments...please & thank you...

I was thinking of the safety issues, but more importantly the possibility that this is all too common an occurrance and Air India possibly needs to address the issue of sexual harrassment at the workplace.

Those Pilots must be fired ASAP and banned from flying any passenger airliner....Given a chance, they might repeat it....

He must be crazy enough to go after an aunty. 24 years old stewardess, it's not possible, I saw old women with thick layer red lip-stick drooping down to chin and pretending to be so young, flew once and never thinking to repeat!

Good points. Perhaps the Pilots are so used to "having their way" that it was a shock that a lady stood up to them.

Air-India is going to be sold off/privatised,it's just a matter of time, the final nails are going in the coffin as we speak, there is no other way they can survive & the Govt. has already bailed them out once, they won't do it again...sad really,@ one time considered one of the best airlines in the world...a result of labour unions calling the shots...not for much longer thankfully...as for this issue, the pilot was brazen enough to do it because he knows that if they take affirmative action, the threat of a pilot strike looms large because his union will intervene & threaten the airline authorities with a strike on his behalf...if this union wasn't in place,he wouldn't dare touch that hostess for fear of losing his job & maybe even his flying lisence...

I thought Air India can't get any worse. They have easily the most rude staff and crappy service. Flew with them once, will never again even consider it..
