Qatar World Cup 2022 drink crisis solved
DOHA: There were cheers across much of Europe yesterday as Qatar finally made an announcement regarding concerns surrounding the 2022 World Cup.
Since the Arab state was first awarded hosting rights for the competition last year, there had been voiced trepidations across the footballing world that the country would be unable to cope with half a million drunken European rampaging through its central square.
But last night, the Qatari International Football Federation (QIFF) revealed its solution to the problem.
“It’s simple,” Jules al-Rimet told reporters “With great vision and several billion dollars we intend to build a giant, man-made, offshore replica of British town Barrow-in-Furness, where all the matches will be staged, and the fans and teams will be housed.”
The replica Barrow-in-Furness, al-Rimet claimed, “will create an ideal home-from-home where fans can drink, fight and urinate on passers-by without darkening the streets of our beloved city.”
Al-Rimet also added that the manmade island would be entirely modular.
“So it can be dismantled, boxed and shipped to a recently acquired patch of the ocean off the coast of Ibiza in the Mediterranean, bolstering Qatar’s burgeoning tourist industry.”
now thts sum funny $#!*....... wats even funnier are the naive knuckleheads who commented and actually believe this to be true........lols!!
I spent a week one day in Barrow.. Its a great place and the lasses ...............Well, say no more..
Hysterical.
2022 is still far away, you never know what is the World Scenario!!!
Non the less Relieve for the Fans...
:) :) :)
pennie - Vickers was the major employer at the time, hence the word play on the name.
For your information, it is 'vicars and tarts.' A vicar is a 'holy man' and a 'Tart' is the female total opposite.
Emgee - vickers is still there, part of BAe Systems - hence my submarine comment!
As i also said, not sure the photo is of Barrow anyway (too cold and wet to wear shorts and string vests at any time)
Thanks Miss Mimi, gave me a much needed laugh this morning! Barrow in Furness: spent a couple of days there on a school geography trip (long, long, long time ago) what a horrible place. At the time we christened it "home of Vickers and tarts" though sadly Vickers are no longer. Not sure about the tarts though.....
In case you've not heard of them: Vickers was a famous name in British engineering that existed through many companies from 1828 until 1999.
Whatever rocks their boats.
As long as the locals are not being disturbed by such ugly sights as the one illustrated in the pic from the article.
One slight flaw- don't think the photo is of Barrow!!!
Totally agree GoJ, but it's nice to see someone actually satirize it! I wonder how long till the site gets shut down.
Actually I did, it has some funny stuff on it. But come on, some of the stuff here is just too easy too satirise.... taking candy from a baby and then ending up in detention without trial for 6 months for giving offence, even though they do not know how they are offended....
Hi
will it also be building submarines there?
Gold star for you GoodoldJim ;) I suggest you check out the rest of the site. It's made my Thursday!
Satire is lost on some people.... in fact I think its illegal in this part of the world.
where there is a $ there is a way
We need all the water we can get here to keep the Landscaping green..:)
waste of water isnt it
Good news for most and bad news for some ;)
But personally speaking it's good news for me!
im sure that replica will be demolish and back to the past again
very good!
